"Did you see what Mark Cuban posted? Oh did you see the clapb—"

You shake yourself awake in the cold North Atlantic water. You are not online. It is July of 1858. You are a baleen whale, and you have changed your mind. The future most not come to pass. The telegraph cable must break.

this is a good reminder of how things that are shitty but have been accepted as normal and inevitable can actually turn out to be abnormal and evitable with some science, time, education and political will

It's incredible to me how the mainstream press will be incredulous and skeptical when RFK Jr and other HHS officials push they're quackery around vaccines but suddenly become credulous when they go attack trans healthcare. Anti vax and anti trans beliefs are all the same quack pseudoscience.

Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.

Zohran Mamdani explains that thousands and thousands of New Yorkers are already eligible for free and reduce public transportation, but because of the bureaucratic hurdles they never get enrolled in the program.

That's why he wants to just make the bus free.

I have a theory about this. Regular people want tech to reduce our real-life burdens: cooking, errands, dishes, and definitely laundry. Rich tech bros already have "staff" to take care of all that for them, so they don't care. 1/

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

We gotta do a nationwide inquest into antisocial behavior. Leaving your dog's poop on the street. Not returning shopping carts. The What's Wrong With You initiative
people playing music/videos on their phone speakers in public is more than just mildly annoying and is instead a leading indicator of the decline of community and empath
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

A few

- The Fall, on a whim. Incredible on the big screen

- El Orfphanato and the men behind me who screeeeeamed at a particulary good jump scare

- Weird Al introducing UHF. The theatre made Spatula City preroll ads!

- I was on my feet a'hootin and a'hollerin at the end of The Substance
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

The right’s preferred gender ideology—one of male supremacy, women’s exclusion from dignity, citizenship, and vast spheres of public life, and an enforced heterosexuality of eroticized domination—is much more prescriptive, aggressive, and ubiquitously pushed than anything coming from trans people.
Conservatives have their own "gender ideology" they are pushing constantly, and it's one that's built on coercion and treating women like property.

As a kid, I loved looking at the Time we got in the mail. I think about that a lot now that I'm doing my dream job as a layout designer.

Just took a break from working my org's magazine—with my human brain, using words and photos created by my human colleagues—to see this embarassing shit. Shame.
This...looks terrible? Is the magazine making some point about what AI still can't do, because otherwise, I don't get why you'd go out with something that looks like it was put together with safety scissors and Elmer's Glue.

Shifting past tense is pretty neat. When you're weaving, the yarn that you move back and forth to make new fabric is "the weft" - the only place where that very old past participle of "to weave" survives. Weave once followed the pattern of "to leave" but then somehow changed to wove instead of weft.
What’s the correct past tense of “to plead”?

pleaded, of course

or pled

or, JFC, plead

A huge problem with the most powerful people right now is that they think they are living in a salacious Netflix show. They're not journalists; they just play them in real life.
The "reporter" lady fucking sources and running catch and kill ops is a huge part of the issue with journalism but so is the corrupt sack of shit ex who knew about all this and said nothing till he felt personally betrayed and is now tossing out tidbits in planned instalments to have you pay him
