Not totally terrible, but a few missing points and several almighty clangers.
First up, for the love of Bod, can we stop talking about one half of the balance sheet and focus on the net position? NZ Govt has more financial assets than liabilities. How unusual is this? Let's have a look [🧵 1/n]

impressive of the CTU to brute force this subversion of "mood of the boardroom" into the media environment

the greens co-leaders being far and away the favourite of working class NZers polled is some pretty useful information as well
Mood of the Workforce: ‘Virtually no praises for Luxon’s performance’
Move over boardroom executives, it’s time to hear what the blue collar workers think of the government, its leaders, and opposition MPs.

The antisemitism we should be talking a lot more about: Demeaning or straight up suppressing Jewish voices that don't toe every inch of the politically correct party line at all times.
CBS News filmed but DIDN'T air this interview in which NYC Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss defends NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, clarifying that Mamdani is opposed to Zionism and Israel's genocide but he's NOT antisemitic. A Jewish rabbi praising a Muslim Mayor. I wonder why they didn't air it? 🤔 #USPolitics

This YouTube video, about making chicken stock the way Heston Blumenthal does, is one of the most impressive pieces of production I've seen in ages!

And also good if you wanna make delicious chicken stock.

If someone keeps telling you they have a plan, or a strong set of values, or guiding principles, but never spells out what they ARE in plain language, you are legally permitted nay obliged to draw the worst possible conclusion

The knight stood, triumphant, over the prostrate dragon. He raised his sword high above his head and-

"I wouldn't if i were you"

The voice was in his head. Confused, he glanced around. A black cat was cleaning a paw, casually nearby.

He raised the sword again.

"Are you REALLY, really sure?" /1

3️⃣ A ban blocks access. It does not address harm.
Online harm comes from platform design, governance failures, and adult misuse.
An isolated ban will not change platform behaviour.

My last story for the year - the third in a sort of trilogy about the energy crisis. This one is about about the unmanaged, unfunded, messy transition away from gas and the impact on businesses.Feels like a perfect example of where we really really could be doing better www.rnz.co.nz/news/in-dept...
Lost in transition: The businesses trapped by New Zealand’s energy crisis
Behind the nation's energy crisis are businesses quietly fighting to survive - many feel they have nothing but bad options.
