one of the more interesting rumors i've heard about Mr Beast is that there's been a fair number of engagement data faking for the past three or four years, and it has started to come up among advertisers after the awful Beast Game Show had miserable ratings
Genuinely incredibly fascinating study in what marketing vectors lead to literally zero sales here, wowwww

Wow: Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention (named for Holocaust survivor Raphael Lemkin, who coined term "genocide") calls Clinton's remarks "genocide denial."

"Young people in the US are not stupid or gullible. They simply reject genocide – something the Secretary might consider doing as well."

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.

Amnesty International, interviewing migrant detainees, identifies use of the confinement box. There can be no denying it is a torture prison

The most important political fault line of our time is over whether children are people or property.
This whole so-called “parents rights” movement the right has taken up and the left is supposed to kowtow to for votes is so obviously anti-child it really bothers me to see it presented as anything other than justification for abusive “parenting” and disregard for actual science on child development

conservatives' dissatisfaction that they don't feel the way they imagine feeling when they look at advertisements from the 1940s and 1950s is honestly a huge W for 40's/50's advertising executives who crafted ads that ruined people's emotional lives even decades after their work was published

Bluesky’s head of trust & safety responding with a sarcastic image macro to a woman upset her husband was kidnapped by ICE is embarrassingly unprofessional & cruel behavior.

that account was then banned by Bluesky Trust & Safety. horrendously poor community management. what purpose does this serve?

A few years ago I had a partner who was a former roboticist. Through her I became acutely aware of how much of public-facing robotics is now is pure theatrical smoke and mirrors horseshit intended to dupe credulous tech press and VCs.
can't stop watching this clip of a tesla Optimus teleoperator taking his headset off before properly logging out the robot

This is also why several western states are the shapes they are - There was a fight prior to the Civil War where both pro- and anti-slavery sides were adding new states to the Union in equal numbers (to keep the Senate balanced), so sliced up territories to fit the compromise lines they'd made up.
The scars of slavery really are scarred into the very face of America isn't it

How the fuck did I not know this!

there are of course many examples of political constituencies that have in fact killed scores of children (en route to some other evil goal), but I can't offhand think of any historical examples of a political constituency organized for that specific purpose
Breaking: After contentious debates and three failed attempts at a vote, a federal vaccine committee decided on Friday to end the decades-long recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B.

Chicagoans will pay $76 per person this year for police misconduct settlements.
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

People need to boycott this show and not just half ass. Shame everyone who plans on watching it. This isn't about Eurovision, it's about Israel getting away with committing genocide because THERE ARE NEVER ANY CONSEQUENCES. They should be untouchable by now. Everybody needs to walk the fucking walk.
Eurovision has allowed Israel to compete in 2026.

Ireland, Spain, Slovenia, and the Netherlands have pulled out of the competition following the decision.

I hate GenAI too but your attempts at litigating the reasons for why something is or is not "art" are getting long-established artforms caught in the crossfire. I've seen takes that would exclude math, fractal, curatorial, accidental, found, generative (non-AI), glitch, and even tablet-drawn art.

We’ve proven UBI works - over and over and over again. It’s affordable, and the benefits always outweigh the costs. The only reason not to implement it is the continued belief that being poor is a moral failing that should be punished.
