if only there had been a movement and momentum several years ago to downsize police budgets, clear out the white supremacists and de-militarize local law enforcement
The elephant in the room is that mayors and governors across the country have very good reason to question the loyalty and allegiances of the state and local police forces and that’s one of the impediments to doing anything about the current occupations

It’s beyond insane that our overarching internal security agency has spent months tweeting barely-coded messages of support for neo-Nazi groups and the entire media apparatus looks at it and says “That’s odd but certainly not part a major story that is relevant to current events, I’m sure”

Can we recall Vasquez? It feels so dangerous to have a conservative DA in the middle of all of this.
Nathan Vasquez is telling Portland residents he’s cooperating with the feds. Philly DA Larry Krasner told them to get the eff out of Philly. They are not the same.

They want different rules for different people and they always have.

They demand the right to their own personal comfort. Anyone who disrupts that - by existing as a marginalized person or allying with marginalized people - is undeserving of freedom and should be disappeared from public life.
Why was it tyranny when people were “forced” to wear masks during the early days of Covid, but it’s not tyranny when masked men with guns are demanding people comply with unlawful orders?

Why are those on the right who screamed about freedom for years so eager to give it up?

Went to the vigil held outside the ICE facility tonight.

Remembering all of the martyrs killed since Heather Heyer in this era of white supremacist violence. We fight on in their memory.

bought a new bed as a consolation gift for my 14 year old terrier (who is very grumpy about change) and the puppy has decided it makes a very cozy body pillow for him instead.

so... we're sweeping people under the pretense of shelter bed availability, but then kicking people who are in shelters back onto the street because we've decided they've been there too long.

where are people supposed to go??
Mayor Wilson sent an email to city councilors Tuesday saying the city will begin enforcing 120-day stay limits at its alternative shelter sites. The rules are intended to incentivize people into using the emergency shelter system to obtain housing, despite the lack of available affordable housing.

Feel like religion and politics have slowly been reversing their roles in people's lives for years.

Beliefs about human nature is the core of politics now, and managing the well-being of your community is the work of the church.
Lots of folks are out here discovering that their partisan behaviors drive their religious belief instead of their religious belief driving their partisan behaviors.

every local vote i can cast is going solely to candidates who vow to protect and increase transit funding at the expense of drivers
30% of Oregonians cannot or will not be a driver.

However, 100% of Oregonians will, at some point, be a pedestrian.

Drastic transit cuts--including half of a MAX line--should be a five-alarm fire, but it barely made a dent in the news cycle compared to a 6¢/gallon gas tax increase.
you ever notice how transit cuts in the biggest city in the state aren’t talked about as a political risk for the governor, despite being vastly worse for transit riders than an unnoticeable gas tax increase is for drivers?

I banned rental price fixing, created fees for landlords who want to profit off detention facilities (like ICE)

The one thing Portland has are the people who live here. Creative, eclectic, fiercely independent people who came out west to get away from the pomp and pretense of older, better run places. The people of this city make what they want to make, and help each other where they can.
