🕷️🔥 Methane-powered sea spiders

Sea spiders at Pacific methane seeps farm and feed on methane-eating bacteria growing on their own exoskeletons.

A bizarre deep-sea symbiosis turning gas into biomass.

Corn ethanol is traaaash!
It continues to be one of the two worst subsidy programs in the Farm Bill and that's SAYING SOMETHING
🌽🔆 Solar not corn ethanol?

A new study finds converting just 3.2% of US cropland now used for corn ethanol into “ecovoltaic” solar could triple national solar energy – while boosting biodiversity, water quality, and pollinator habitats.

When you think of money as "other people's labor", which it basically is, a lot of social institutions become very strange.

For example, did you know that you can inherit millions of hours of other people's labor? Why.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

This may be the new dumbest thing that I've heard about that DOGE has interrupted. We're in a climate and ecological crisis. We need the genetic diveristy of these seed banks MORE THAN EVER and they were founded one hundred and thirty years ago!
Musk's war on government capacity threatens "irreversible losses of crop genetic diversity. Such losses directly undermine the United States’ ability to ensure continued food security and dietary diversity amid challenges to our agricultural systems." 😬

Honestly?

This might sound like crank nonsense but I think a large part of why we're in this mess is we're all too willing to discuss issues without mentioning solutions.

It's why I never simply say "people cannot charge at apartments" - that's a political reality, not a practical one.

We live in a time of great stupidity, and we should thus be building monuments to our stupidity. Future generations will gaze upon these monuments with awe, and wonder how a civilization could have been THAT fucking dumb.
