Trump, uniquely among candidates in my lifetime, enjoyed the privilege of openly contradicting himself without being challenged by the press, leaving everyone free to believe in their own personal Trump.

It is impossible to overstate the degree to which the entire national political media's coverage of the 2024 presidential campaign, especially once Harris won the nomination, was deeply, fundamentally, shamefully unserious about the stakes & the candidates.
I can still recall all the tut-tutting from the media when Harris made this argument.
Kamala Harris at her closing campaign rally:

"Donald Trump intends to use the United States Military against American citizens who simply disagree with him."

counterpoint: we should maintain if not increase the hateful rhetoric bc he is in fact a murderer
Homan: "We gotta stop the hateful rhetoric. Saying this officer is a murderer is dangerous. It's just ridiculous. It's gonna infuriate people more which means there's gonna be more incidents like this."

This is the heart of it.

Any press coverage that gullibly paints this partisan punitive campaign of retribution as "fighting crime" or "enforcing immigration laws" is actively complicit in a government campaign to punish dissent.
whats missing from all the coverage is that the president is using the military to harass, brutalize and punish areas of the country that didnt vote for him

These have always been the narrative tools to deny victimhood in families, communities, institutions, and groups big and small. But now they have been informed by social media, its scale and mediums, and now the state has adopted this refined cultural playbook for its own violence.

Where the hell are Google and Apple enforcing their app store terms of service on X? Grok doing CSAM should instantly be a removal from the app store. Any other app doing this would be pulled instantly. Journalists should be asking for comment from these companies.

Democrats need to understand that they can just say “It’s insane to threaten Greenland” and “I don’t think ICE should murder Americans in the street” and you don’t need to pretend to link it to the affordability crisis.

I don’t like these articles saying “we” were soft and complacent after Jan. 6. It’s reminiscent of “everyone thought Saddam had WMDs” in that it tries to share recrimination evenly when many of us were shouting to the rafters in both cases.

God this is like Musk renaming Twitter to X all over again

Office has existed as a brand since BEFORE I WAS ALIVE. It is the single most ubiquitous work-oriented suite of programs in the world and has been for decades.

Yeah, throw it away for the AI app everyone hates.
Microsoft is so fucking stupid.

Microsoft renamed Microsoft Office to Microsoft 365 Copilot App

I'm not joking
