xAI is a quasi-company that makes an LLM called "Grok" used by disgusting perverts on the r/Grok Subreddit to make video pornography or to summarize articles for imbeciles on Twitter. It costs $1 billion a month to run, and I think it poses a real threat to Musk.

xAI - Burning $1 Billion A Month+, Using Insane Special Purpose Vehicle To Build Second Giant Data Center, r/Grok Single Worst Reddit I’ve Seen In My Life, Unrestrained LLM Straight Up Creates Porn xAI, which bought Twitter earlier in the year in a very incestuous deal, sells access to “Grok,” a series of Large Language Models, the latest of which is called Grok 4, and which cost $490 million to train, likely because Musk’s Colossus data center is powered by inefficient fume-belching gas turbines that cost xAI $1 billion a month. To continue expanding Grok — and construct another data center called “Colossus 2” — Musk has had to pull together a Special Purpose Vehicle that NVIDIA will invest as much as $2 billion in, at which point it will raise around $18 billion in debt, buy lots of GPUs, and then rent those GPUs right back to Elon Musk. Now that’s what I call business! It isn’t clear what xAI’s revenue actually is because it’s now intertwined with the revenue of Twitter, which we also have little insight into. Grok also now has a very peculiar feature — a 3D AI girlfriend called Ani — along with a “spicy” mode for Not Safe For Work images and videos. If you’re wondering what those videos might be, read r/Grok, a Subreddit that appears to entirely consist of disgusting perverts posting vile, at-times-pornographic images and videos of the various ways they’ve convinced Grok to create something demeaning about a woman. I earnestly hope every single person who posts one of these videos has their access to the internet permanently removed. Anyway, this is what Elon Musk is spending $1 billion a month on — a bot that once called itself “MechaHitler” and sells itself to degenerates that likely burn millions of dollars a day creating AI pornography and whining like brats when Grok fails to submit to their perverted desires. xAI Is A Legitimate Threat To Elon Musk — And He’ll Be The Last Money To Leave AI I get that Elon Musk may seem like he has infinite money, but $1 billion a month is a great deal of money to a man who doesn’t have much liquid capital. Sure, Musk might wriggle out of the jam easily, but this is an existentially threatening amount of money. The plan seemed to be to get Tesla to buy (or invest) in xAI, except most shareholders appear to not want Tesla to do so, likely because xAI sucks. Yet that’s really the only plan for this company. Assuming that Colossus 2 ever gets built (I have my doubts), it will be three times larger than Colossus 1, the data center costing Musk a billion dollars a month. Though the terms are such that Musk will just be paying the SPV a monthly lease, one has to worry how much that lease would be, and whether Musk will be on the hook for things like electricity or water. In any case, CNBC reported this week that xAI was raising another $15 billion (though Musk claims this is “false”), on top of the $10 billion that xAI raised in September. In a just world, Grok would not exist. We do not live in that world.

Here's one weird thing about the AI bubble: only one hyperscaler has ever talked AI revenue - Microsoft, who stopped talking about it in January 2025. This is likely because AI isn't providing much - if any - actual revenue growth, let alone profit.

Hyperscalers - Why Won’t Anybody Talk About AI Revenue? Only one hyperscaler (I’ll get to it, okay?) has ever revealed AI revenues, yet the media loves to say that the $500 billion or more “AI bets have paid off,” because nobody apparently fucking reads. None of these companies have proven anything about AI, and I’m sick and tired of hearing everybody pretend like they have! If hyperscalers’ “AI bets had paid off,” they’d be popping champagne and pointing to the vast piles of money coming out of those expensive GPUs. Instead, every earnings involves someone like Sundar Pichai saying that “AI is driving real business results across the company” without any explanation as to what that means. I’ll tell you what it means: big tech isn’t making much money from AI! As I wrote in the last Hater’s Guide, the few analyst estimates we have point to these companies making somewhere between $3 billion and $10 billion from AI in 2025 as they each spunk $70 billion to $116 billion in capital expenditures on the world’s least-profitable software and hardware. Only one company chose to disclose AI revenues — Microsoft, which said in January 2025 that its AI revenue run rate reached $13 billion “annually.” It has since not disclosed any AI-related revenue, I assume because the revenues are so good. What we do know is that OpenAI has spent at least $8.67 billion on Azure through September 2025 as part of its abominable inference costs, and back in 2024 (I can’t confirm OpenAI’s current rates), Microsoft was selling OpenAI compute at a “hefty discount” of $1.30 per hour per A100 GPU. There’s a good chance that OpenAI is still paying a discount, though I imagine the company is out of the Azure credits that Microsoft invested as part of its $10 billion investment in the company from 2023. Similarly, we know that Amazon Web Services made $2.66 billion in revenue from Anthropic through the same period. Amazon intends to spend $116 billion on capex this year. But that’s really all we know, other than that Jensen Huang claims hyperscalers will be spending $600 billion in capex in 2026 and that Google, Meta, Amazon and Microsoft all intend to raise capex projections in 2026. Oh, and Mark Zuckerberg is so confident about the future of the AI bubble that he's choosing to fund the Hyperion data center with a weird Special Purpose Vehicle that means Meta doesn't actually own it and just rents it from the SPV. In another genius move, Zuck has also promised to make investors whole if Meta walks away, likely because investors refused to fund the deal if he didn't. I really, really can't wait to see the shitkicking that's coming for big tech for its hubris.

Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.
