It's fascinating how closely this lines up with the split inside many households with a domestic abuser - drama because there's disagreement over whether to coddle the abuser to avoid triggering them or to fight back / separate

The response to this feels somewhat akin to the response to Hillbilly Elegy— that certain liberals must read it and praise it so that they can properly and publicly perform humility to atone for their eliteness. This is despite both of these books being written by Ivy Leaguers.

Most planners I know are familiar with this playbook, and will also point out that democratically mandated public consultation processes are often manipulated to play into this, which is how we get watered down (or non existent) rather than transformative project outcomes.
Have you heard of “The Populist Playbook?”

A few years ago, I posted what I still consider one of my most important messages.

It was about “The Populist Playbook” that I’ve watched play out often over my 33+ years of city planning.

Since then, it’s only gotten worse.

Do the steps sound familiar?

Wait so Disney buys stock from OpenAI and OpenAI pays Disney in stock to license its characters? Amazing
Sources: Disney's Sora deal is entirely in OpenAI stock rather than a cash licensing fee; Disney has the option to buy additional stock beyond the $1B stake (Bloomberg)

Thinking about the commonly observed phenomenon of industries losing prestige, compensation, & male pursuit when they're declared feminized. Were men pushed out by DEI or have some men turned elsewhere from demonized professions declared feminine & invalid?

The thing that gets me about this is that even if we wanted to make a positive AI ad, they never showcase AI being used to enhance someone’s day or improve their workflow. There’s no “it allows me to more easily do what I love.” It’s always presented as a failsafe for the dispassionate and incurious
Every ad for AI is like

Person: FUCK!! I don’t know what to get my loved one for Christmas!!!!!! I love them so much!!! Tell me what to do, AI!!

AI: get sock

Title Card: You are literally the smartest person for doing this

I don't know what this was originally about, but it reminds me:

In most of the mostly white spaces I regularly participate in (for political work), the dominant norm is snark, whereas in the majority-POC spaces I inhabit, the dominant norm is sincerity.

The former, I endure; the latter, I enjoy.
My hottest current take :

White and edgelord humor is one long line of insincere bullying that depends in you not wanting to be the person who “doesn’t get the joke”

If you call it a “male immaturity epidemic,” a very different set of phenomena come into focus, as this thread shows
I'm starting to wonder how much "the male loneliness epidemic" is just straight and bisexual women identifying low-effort, mean, and incompetent men and choosing not to date, marry, and tolerate them anymore

Most discussions about “misinformation” treat the problem as if people simply don’t have good enough critical-thinking skills. It sounds intuitive, but it’s not entirely accurate. The problem isn’t just individual ignorance, it’s the structure of the information environment people are placed into.

Once you open "porn" up for removal, or acceptable removal, based upon a moving scale of gray morality, everyone's work is fair game. Everyone's. Because just being queer? Is considered by many perverse. Even if everyone has their clothes on, perverse.

Protect. Porn.
