Got 84 assets we need the art team to whip up textures for before we ship; to make things simple I covered the assets in mimics that *look* exactly like textures but will hurt our company if they aren't found and replaced

What kills me about "who is the father of indie games?" discourse is that, if you mean only the 2008+ indie boom, the answer is whoever pushed Xbox Live Arcade, or someone like that. Not an indie game creator, a venue creator. Breakout game creators were inevitable thanks to venue availability.

i feel like if you use ai for your design docs, schedules and budget you might not conceptually and morally poison your Art but you *will* apply a giant percentage point penalty to your chances of remaining in business long enough to produce a video game
As the backlash to generative AI in video games continues to pick up steam heading into 2026, it'll be fascinating to see what is considered "made with generative AI." Can a dev team say they're not using AI if they're writing design docs with Copilot or using chatGPT to make schedules and budgets?

i think this is fine. i think the placeholder texture in clair obscur being a scandal is silly but i also wholeheartedly support making an example of any and all ai use in production. besides, clair obscur has enough awards and is not indie - please be serious - and blue prince deserves more wins.
