I've been waiting for this to come up. So, for the record:
When I started planning and writing #Santuario in the early 2000s, ICE-the US agency didn't exist. The Skanian ICE in the book came about because I wanted an easy to pronounce acronym that matched the Northern climate.

Writers — the ones you know and love, the ones you think of as successful — have sources of income outside that book you read. Most of us are a half-step ahead of the landlord at best, and struggling to maintain health insurance. We figure out other ways to make a buck.
