The debate over whether he means things like this literally is tangential to the reality that this guy has spent over a decade wondering aloud into the world’s largest megaphone whether anyone among his violent, unstable followers will rid him of these turbulent priests.

the nazis and pro-nazi media blamed all the ills of german society on jewish people. it was how they primed the pump before the holocaust. if u dehumanize people and say they cause all the problems, it becomes easy to exterminate them.

the right is doing the same thing to immigrants.
this defies parody. also helps explain why Sec Bessent bizarrely blamed immigrants when confronted with a question about high beef prices

Actually the question that occurs to me is "will you nominate him anyway even after years of people telling you they won't vote for him if you do, and then when you lose as you were warned you would, will you blame not yourselves but the people who warned you."
If he ends up being the Democrat on the presidential ticket in 2028, you would rather vote republican or not vote at all because of this issue?? That’s the million dollar question. Not the hill I would die on and def not worth losing an election over!

The important thing to bear in mind as Trump's popularity begins to wobble is that the disastrous economic consequences of the things he's done in the first 10 months of this term have not even *begun* to hit. We've been coasting on the fumes of the economy he inherited and soon they'll be gone.
my wife and her entire team were fired over Zoom from their program manager jobs at a local nonprofit Seattle hospital this Spring because Trump just stopped paying Medicaid reimbursements. and this is a relatively affluent urban center

we're really not prepared for what's coming
As a direct result of President Trump's Big Ugly Bill, almost 300 jobs will be cut from Providence Swedish's First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard, and Issaquah hospitals and clinics. These are not the only layoffs we've seen in our health care system in Washington state in recent months.

Beginning Monday, a Frozen Peppermint Hot Chocolate drink will be available exclusively at Starbucks cafés inside Target stores.

The chains are hoping the drink can drum up excitement from customers this holiday season.

Back in the day, the datacenter LiveJournal was hosted in had the requisite emergency power off button in the event of fire suppression systems becoming necessary. It was placed on the wall right next to the exit door ... where it looked precisely like a button to open an automatic door.
This is where @oggie.bsky.social and @kingfox.bsky.social gather in a dark corner of a virtual bar and reminisce about the time a guy unplugged the wrong thing to plug in a vacuum cleaner.
every time I see people whining about the internet and single points of failure and “remember when” I laugh and LAUGH. folks. did you know that at one point sufficient rain in northern Virginia could take half the internet down? the infrastructure is way more robust and resilient than it used to be.

None of this is industry naivete
if Steven Salpeter wasn't himself a former literary agent you might be like, ah perhaps this is a mistake made by new owners unfamiliar with publishing contracts
Apparently the SFWA won't name names but I will: ANALOG. The new contract under Must Read Magazines includes a moral rights waiver. And they are rather insistent about it. I'm guessing this applies to all the digests under MRM now, though I haven't seen those contracts. DON'T JUST SIGN. NEGOTIATE.

Please do not feed personal information to chatGPT. Please do not tell it where you work and live and how to get money from you.

They know that TurboTax is easier than doing it by hand and cheaper (mostly) than going to an accountant.

That accountant had to sign ethical standards. ChatGPT can’t.
TurboTax is about to be integrated into ChatGPT, where customers will be guided through tasks tied to their tax filings or financial profile by the AI chatbot.

TurboTax owner Intuit is also paying OpenAI more than $100 million a year to power AI agents.

Just this week I had to interrupt a phone call my mother was on with "the Inspector General"

ma'am, the inspector general of what exactly?? Why is he on the phone with you? What?

I had to drill her several times. The bank is NOT GOING TO CALL YOU. Neither is the IRS or social security! Never!!!!!
Man, reach out to your older folks and remind them that there's never a computer problem so urgent that they should have to go to the bank and withdraw a bunch of cash while on the phone with anyone.
