I got a Tagesschau news alert that Germany is sending 13 soldiers tomorrow.
Denmark confirms an expanded, more permanent Danish and NATO military presence in and around Greenland, beginning today. Deployments span land, sea, and air, including protection of critical infrastructure, fighter jets, and naval operations. Sweden has committed forces; other NATO allies may follow

"Is it really so far fetched to imagine that most people would most likely be 'fine' with renting their full computing solutions from companies like Microsoft and Amazon?"

No, and that's what makes this TERRIFYING!

Jeff Bezos said the quiet part out loud — hopes that you'll give up your PC to rent one from the cloud
Amazon's Jeff Bezos once revealed how he thinks of local PC hardware as antiquated, ready to be replaced by cloud options. Will DRAM prices make it come true?

Usians don't get it, mired in their miasma of execeptionalist thinking: we will never trust you again, with anything, ever. It'll take generations for your position in the world to recover. Your fascist spasm--even if you recover from it today or next year--will be a drag on your nation for decades.
Folks in the US still like to treat the whole Greenland invasion stuff as sufficiently unserious to engage with, but it is sufficiently serious that NATO allies are actively deploying tripwire forces to deter the US. That is *already* a political and actual cost to them, and to US relationships

The Hmong are here because they fought for the US in a war we lost.
"“They specifically asked me if I knew where the Hmong families lived on my street & in the neighborhood.” Lugert-Thom responded, “I don’t know anything about that” & she said they then asked, “Well, what about the Asian families?”"

"“I was a bit shaken & a bit shocked of what I was asked to do.”"
A St. Paul resident says federal officers knocked on her door and asked her to identify Hmong and Asian households in her North End neighborhood last week.

I will never forget the year it hit -40 windchill and the governor shut down the state because seriously, YOU WILL DIE REALLY FAST.

Can’t wait for ICE to experience it.
To any ICE agents reading this who are from down south—you have never experienced anything like this cold. Our European climate equivalent is literally Stalingrad. It will hurt to breathe. You will be outside in it. So will we, but we are used to it.

Next week is what will break you.

This, this, this. Tired anytime someone whines that Democrats don't have any power, can affect no change. When the GOP were out of power, they ground the gears of government to a halt -- and when they got going again, they did so slowly, on the GOP's terms. (In part because Democrats were passive!)
“But what do you expect Democrats to doo-hooo?”

1) Refuse to fund this criminal government anymore.

2) EVERY one of them call to abolish ICE (and bonus, DHS). No more “they need training” shit. Promise prosecutions.

3) EVERY one of them call for Trump’s impeachment, relentlessly, EVERY day.

Leftists address this constantly. We advocate for universal health care and child care, guaranteed pensions, decommodified housing, and all kinds of other things that would directly address these issues. What we don't do is say "more white babies" which is what is really being asked here

There are lots of reasons to compare what is happening now to Nazi Germany and there are also lots of reasons to compare what is happening now to the post-1850 Fugitive Slave Act U.S. and it's *weird* how people respond with interest to the former but total confusion to the latter

So charmed by the FROG AND TOAD books — and always glad when our toddler asks to read them.

I wanted to buy him more, but was surprised and disappointed: there are only the four slender books, written 50 years ago.

Then I realized: they’re precious and limited, in a world of infinite content.

This is the sort of statement that was expected from every university president and law firm partner over the last year. That those statements weren’t made played a huge part in where we are now and people will remember.
Jerome Powell: "This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions—or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation."

they really specifically wanted to avoid this type of know-nothing demagogue
people will say the framers never could have predicted this, but that's not true at all, they absolutely *did* expect someone like trump, they thought congress would *stop* him, and they thought they made that clear
