If you told me this was a conversation between a drag queen and her lesbian friend with a uniform fetish, I'd totally believe you.

The older I get, the more my politics mature from childish, naïve beliefs like "the world is complicated and leaders have to make hard decisions" to more serious, adult principles like "hurting people is bad and helping people is good."

The final page of issue 3 remains one of my all time favorite pages of any comic book
The fluidity of symbols, the erotics of color, the necessity of remembering metaphors are also the thing they are and more with Fantastic Four 1234 by José Villarrubia, Jae Lee, Wes Abbot, and Grant Morrison.

I do think it's a good idea to engage in conversation with right wingers. But you gotta do it face to face so you can get a sense if they are sincerely listening and not winding you up or mocking you or a robot or twelve years old or just ignoring you until it's their time to monologue
Apropos to a post I'm not going to quote: no, you are not fucking obliged to battle the fucking right on fucking social media, or go to where they are. Why make yourself miserable shouting at bots (who don't care) or trolls (who get off on your misery). Make your fucking social media enjoyable, FFS.

Once in a century political opportunity here, if only there were a party to claim it
"According to the…annual Harris Poll, for the 1st time, a majority of Americans believe billionaires are a threat to democracy. A remarkable 71% believe there should be a wealth tax. A majority believe there should be a cap on how much wealth a person can accumulate." www.nytimes.com/2025/12/14/o...

I taught it this term and this is 100% correct. PLATO WAS RIGHT
The Republic Book IX remains the most essential political reading of the current era.

This is such a wild streak. Like literally you need to be either Tim Burton or Akira Kurosawa to have a streak like this

Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

When I taught Oscar Wilde and Walter Pater and was explaining what aestheticism was one student interrupted and was like "so it's just ... vibes" and I had a hard time arguing! Where's the lie?!
Gen Z and Gen Alpha have been using “aesthetic” as an adjective or a one-word compliment on social media for a few years now.

But to older ears, it still sounds strange.
Why everything is ‘aesthetic’ to Gen Z and Alpha
Gen Z turned “aesthetic” into an adjective and a one-word compliment. Why does it still sound wrong to older ears?

As a substitute for religion allow me to recommend PLATO! It fulfills the need to worship something that is not just money and power but Plato is more active than religion and leaves more room for you to develop yourself on your own principles
Religious affiliation has been dropping among young people for decades, but there are examples of surging interest on college campuses and in cities. https://wapo.st/4a3Gmhk
