One of my greatest worries about climate was “countries will not trust each other enough to do this” but that’s actually become somewhat moot as renewables have become way preferable for many growing countries precisely /because/ they do not trust temperamental petrostates.

Hey, so. The world is awful, etc. And because of that, I'd like to ask a favor: Please spend a few minutes between now and New Years sharing the work you were most proud of this year. People might have missed it, but also, it's nice to see people feel good about the work they do

We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

Many of the Christmas songs that Miller’s Christian Nationalist pals will be enjoying this season were written by Jewish immigrants who, like Miller’s ancestors, were considered at the time to be unassailable threats to American civilization who should be prevented from becoming Americans.
Stephen Miller's cousin unloads on him:

“We’re Jewish—we grew up knowing how hated we were just for existing. Now he’s trying to take away the exact thing his own family benefited from: that ability to prosper, to build community, to live a rewarding life.”
