This whole saga has, I think, demonstrated very well my contention that American political journalists believe that they deserve all of the respect and deference that comes with filling a vital societal role, while rejecting the idea that holding such a position also entails duties and obligations.
Trump is blacklisting a news outlet for using a name he doesn't like.
It's that simple.
So why aren't more reporters and media outlets speaking out more vehemently to help The AP? In part, I'm told, it's because the WH Correspondents' Association is trying to work out a solution behind the scenes.

This is a great thread. If you've managed complex data systems that need the ability to model the state of the data at a point in time, you understand how difficult this all is. These chucklefucks look at the data for an afternoon and think they've got it all figured out and can do better
Musk has no technical skills whatsoever, but he wants to appear smart. So he takes bits of information like this, told to him by junior engineers, and regurgitates it to appear smart.
Musk did this with the Twitter stack and Twitter's senior architects called him out publicly, then he fired them.

One of Musk's defining qualities is that he is a conspiracy theorist when it comes to government. He will see some ambiguous information or be presented with an easily debunked tale and he immediately believes the worst.

look if you have a vocal minority in the country who threatens to murder anyone who disagrees with them you have a couple options for moving forward and surviving but none of those options start with give it in just because they're making threats
cassidy changing his tune after what he said on the senate floor is what has upgraded my position from "they are being bribed" or "they are worried about primary challenges" to "they are worried about being murdered"

say this a lot, but most major games sites legitimately have higher reporting standards than political reporters, whose access compromises them in all the very worst ways
My proposal for this grey February Monday is that political reporters should be abolished. They're far too addicted to the psychodrama, they don't have expertise in any policy areas, they bigfoot their expert colleagues on any story that involves an MP, and this creates too noise and little light.
