the fact that people on this site who think they are savvy and insightful and above being manipulated repeatedly fall for articles that are very clearly engineered to get maximum clicks from people on this site specifically is embarassing

Excited to vote for numeracy in District 3 elections 2026!
If anyone tries to build a data center in or near Portland they’re gonna have to do it over my dead body. It’s not gonna happen. I would like for humanity and all creation to access fresh water in 10 years.

This this this is the difference between winning political instincts and wielding power vs an endless critique of power. Seize the mantle.
If you can convince the boomers and gen Xers who swept Reagan to a landslide in 84 that it's actually you who are part of the grand continuity of glorious American government they nostalgize and the MAGA GOP as aberrant deviationists, that's good.

Noam Chomsky made it very clear that he was a scumbag when he denied the Khmer Rouge genocide back in the 1970s: if you’ve been trying to deny the obvious about him ever since, well, that’s on you.
Well, there's a photo I never expected to see in my life. Noam Chomsky palling around with Steve Bannon.

Reroute I-5 up I-405 and demolish this abomination
Look at the central city riverfront of Portland. It's just so shocking and embarrassing that we tolerate this.

41. I injured my knee “training” for a turkey trot and have an Ortho appointment next week. I’m wearing a comfy dad flannel and sipping my second IPA while sitting next to my gas fireplace in the house I couldn’t afford to buy until I was 38. Just living authentically here.
someone should research why boomers clung to youth and demanded cultural hegemony well into their 60s while millennials went to pure "we are old and going to die soon and our zeitgeist expired years ago" mode before hitting 40
Figured I'd share this on Bluesky because this is the most 38 year old video I've ever seen in my life

Surprised she has time between her busy schedule of demolishing every outdoor dining structure in Portland.

A government of the choads, by the choads, for the choads.
"The Donald Trump administration has changed which holidays qualify for free entrance to national parks, removing two holidays celebrating Black people and adding the president’s birthday."
National parks change prioritizes Trump birthday over days honoring Black people
Free entrance days at national parks no longer include MLK Day and Juneteenth.

Currently 20% into Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds and man, I dunno… the world is fun but the expository prose and wooden characters are making me dread picking it back up. Competition between my Protestant guilt around DNF’ing novels and desire to jump to something more enjoyable.

finally, conspiracy theorists will be correct when in saying that "They" are running things
LOOK, all im saying is we've tried patriarchy and if you go back far enough we've even tried matriarchy, but we've never tried rule by neuter gender. i believe we should try something new in this bold new era (i am very unbiased)
I think this shows that right-wing men are too emotional and reactive to govern effectively, this whole “masculinism” thing has gone too far and we need to get back to the traditional feminine values that built this country

The government being closed, no jobs report, but SPY still being up by nearly 1/2 a percent this morning has some real “no parents, no rules” energy.

again, as somebody who has actually lived in a dictatorship and worked with dissidents from across the world, this kind of whiny cosplaying by academics pretending they have some secret knowledge of resistance is very annoying.
What we're seeing in the "don't sign up for protests" discourse is what Paulo Freire described as the convert's failure to trust the knowledge of the oppressed. As the convert tries to stand in solidarity with the oppressed, they refuse to let go of a world where they were the authority by default.
