remains striking the extent to which trump quite loudly does not see himself as president of the united states and more as a clan leader for his supporters
Trump: "I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting ... "

Law enforcement baronial class
Cops lie, and even if the truth is revealed that they lied, they will always get away with it because cops are a protected class. This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal.

We're going to see how much people have learned. The playbook is CLEAR as day.
DHS preemptively smearing protestors and observers of domestic terrorism gives the game away. They're manufacturing excuses for ICE and CBP to shoot anyone that gets in their way.

It takes an enormous amount of courage to stand there, keep filming, and scream "What the fuck, you asshole" at someone wearing a badge who just shot and killed one of your neighbors in cold blood.
I need people to wrap their minds around the fact that here in Minneapolis, ICE broke the window of a vehicle yesterday, pepper sprayed the occupants, and arrested them, and shot another observer in the face today, and OBSERVERS ARE STILL GOING OUT TO PROTECT THEIR NEIGHBORS AT MASSIVE PERSONAL RISK
I’m eating lunch, I’m having a panic attack, I’m charging my phone, and then I’m going back out to try and keep my neighborhood safe.

I'm not going to quote tweet, but I promise you that people do not "need" to see the video. I don't want to tell people what to post now that I know we have the tools for disabling videos. However, you don't need to see someone dehumanized to care for them if you already believe in their humanity.

I have seen three videos now, all of them contradict Tricia's statement. And every single journalist who interacts with her knows that she lies all the time in ways that can be proven, which should also be stated in the piece.
the nyt says that no version of events in minneapolis can be "verified independently." but that's not true! there are multiple videos proving that the ICE version of events is a total lie. maybe the nyt can, y'know, watch one of them? www.nytimes.com/live/2026/01...

Theres a murderer at large being protected because of his political beliefs
Every second the murderer is not arrested is another second for feds to hide him in a place that would create a jurisdictional fight. He's on video killing a person. You have to arrest this guy an hour ago, but you might still have time now.

losing my mind at the "she should have followed directions" people

really? really? you're cool with "if you don't follow directions, they get to kill you"? that seems like a good state of affairs to you? that seems like how law enforcement ought to work: instant obeisance or death?

Stories about Meta's glasses "helping" blind people infuriate me. Ah yes. Because the greatest indignity is having to ask people for help. Never mind that relying on such technology 1. Absolves society from ever making any serious efforts to re-examine its values and practices

one begins to suspect that protecting the safety & dignity of children is not the principle goal of the internet censorship movement
what's it called when the two dominant legislative attitudes to the internet are "everyone must surrender their anonymity just in case a 16 year old wants to look at p*rn" and "we have streamlined the CSAM process for today's busy pedophile. no you cannot opt out"

The FEDS drugged and shot Fred Hampton in bed.

Philly cops blew up a building in the 1980s and most people don't even know the MOVE bombing happened.

I think you're downplaying how normalized US death is.
If the DEA had killed 80 innocent Americans in the course of apprehending one drug dealer, there would be riots. But we are so ghoulishly indifferent to the lives and humanity of people abroad that it's barely even part of the conversation.
A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

I've been thinking of a way to address this without offending people. I may not succeed and I apologize. Straight women will happily and enthusiastically watch queer romances. And not just ones featuring men. There's the Xena effect. Or Harley and Ivy. Etc.
I can't believe that after 20+ solid years of 'Why do women like slash fanfic' and 10 years of 'Why do women ship Steve and Bucky' I have to read 10,000 versions of 'Why do women DO THE THING THEY HAVE BEEN DOING?'

better question: WHY DIDN'T YOU LISTEN THE FIRST TIME

i grit my teeth at even acknowledging the idea that a "woke 1.0" existed but such as it is, the 2010s were a decade that featured a lot of surface level liberal representational politics being positioned as genuine anti oppression by capitalists
have seen some folks mention or contemplate that there were parts of “Woke 1.0” that were inept, too much, ham-fisted, etc. Without putting anyone on the spot, has anyone more concretely described what, exactly, they think were the inept or too much parts?
