I’m just putting it out there:

In no way would Andy Burnham be a better UK leader than Starmer.

Much as I think the guy did a decent job of making people pay attention to the north.

Not actually sure who would be a good leader for UK other than Starmer right now. But it’s not Burnham.

I understand the pressures on the BBC, but Radio 4's coverage of the Minneapolis shooting is an example of "bad balance".

It's all "the Trump regime says she was a terrorist, but Democrats say it was murder".

The BBC has the footage. It doesn't have to treat truth and falsehood as equally valid.

Jeremy Bowen really is an outstanding broadcaster. He's a reminder that public service broadcasting can be objective and impartial without needing to be balanced - indeed that balance makes objectivity impossible. I imagine they'll get rid of him soon.

Here’s my list of things the public doesn’t seem to know, but historians broadly agree upon 👇
I’ve got loads!

- Medieval people washed regularly, drank water, and didn’t have rotten teeth
- WW1 did not end in 1918
- Queen Victoria was a horndog
- Ancient Egyptians invented Egyptology by excavating their own ancient monuments
- We know more about Shakespeare than many other famous Tudors

Great powers have always, to some extent, written the rules for themselves. But this should be a reminder that for all we might lament the “rules based order”, it’s largely gone, if it ever existed. Hard power is the only thing which matters now. Europe needs to wake up to the new realities.
