I always talk about my dislike of how non-linear music has become because of streaming, but it really is harmful for music as a whole. How is a new artist supposed to break out when they have to compete with every single song that's ever been released throughout history?

If Congress doesn't wish to be regarded as a body of impotent losers it's just going to have to get up and use its powers.

He's definitely counting on Jan. 6 ptsd to strike a lil paralytic fear. Time to find real some real courage.

It’s pretty sinister. The companies behind dating apps expressly don’t want users to find long-term relationships. If we find love, we use the apps less AND give them less of our data. 👀
I forgot most of these dating apps are pay to play. Capitalism gon have everybody lonely lmao

What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

REVIEW: “The Fate of Ophelia” by Taylor Swift

I see the pop girl explosion wasn’t the only 2024 trend that didn’t carry over into 2025. I really thought Not Like Us and Kendrick’s blockbuster year would reopen the floodgates for hip-hop

The dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated the same as any other New Yorker.

And yet, for too long, we have been told to ask for less than that, and endure hatred and bigotry in the shadows.

No more.

I'm surprised there are people surprised at the negative quality of The Life of a Showgirl because the same traits that mar this album have been present since Reputation. "Cancelled" is basically "I Did Something Bad" 2.0 and "Actually Romantic" is just a more glib "Look What You Made Me Do"

The big hope for continued pop success is Lee Greenwood, whose got the only crossover hit of the year, "God Bless the USA." The chapter is funny because otherwise no one respects the guy; if not for the twang he'd be an easy listening artist being played next to Air Supply

Not to excuse Disney's actions -- which are an unconscionable capitulation and an abandonment of first amendment principles -- but I think people just genuinely do not understand how much power affiliates wield in the broadcast TV game. Still! To this day!
Affiliate power is nothing new. The TV show Turn-On effectively got cancelled in the middle of its first episode in 1969 because of an affiliate revolt. I wrote a couple of pieces about it a few years ago.
