I really do worry about the degree to which we rhetorically entrench Murc’s Law in pursuit of being pre-disappointed.
I’ll put it this way: I have significantly more optimism that we can beat this particular set of fascists than I do that Dems will do what is necessary not to hand the country right back over to the next batch four year later

Not sure how I feel when a book tells me that instead of "12 months" they have "10 arcs," which are each 40 days long, and they all have names like Blossomarc, Flamearc Snowarc,.... I appreciate the world building, but couldnt we have just kept the calendar the same?

I feel I need to highlight this, in the off chance someone younger than forty is reading this: The media was terrible in the run up to Afghanistan and Iraq, they were a magnitude better at covering the run up to both than they are with Venezuela. The Bush admin put effort into selling the wars too.

This seems like the kind of declaration by a U.S. president that should be mentioned *somewhere* on the front page of CNN or the NY Times, but the fact that it isn't (as of right now) tells us so much both about how this president is covered and the credibility of the U.S. government.

I'm starting to think Trump is losing his mind. Not really because of the latest burst of insanity in the last two days, although that is part of it, but that in conjecture with the Mamdani meeting where Trump was uncharacteristically super chill.
Trump claims “any document” signed by Joe Biden is “hereby terminated.”
He calls out executive orders later but obviously “any document” would be much broader and include legislation.
(He can’t legally do that but, as always, we get to watch how far he can push this without repercussions)

This is fundamentally Nazism. The idea that different peoples than the favored races carry degradation in their very genes, that they cannot strive to become better because biology compels them to be worse. It’s not just repugnant, it’s a bald faced lie.

All I really have to do today is prestage the kitchen and not even that really, just making a green bean casserole, not too much work. Really, I've done the important stuff by getting all the ingredients and making sure that the mixing bowls and casserole dish are ready.

It's funny how this is being presented by ABC as Ukraine agreeing with peace terms, but this one part here regarding limits to Ukraine's army has been a central demand from the Russians since the beginning of the war. Very much feels like ABC news has no idea what they're talking about.

Better seize the refineries too, because you can't crack Venezuelan crude in any US refinery. The only US refinery that can handle it (The HOVENSA refinery in the USVI) closed in 2012.

I don't think these results show what people think they show. Lots of lefty wishful thinking about this being a Vietnam for Trump. Handled right, it could be his biggest success. Not likely but possible, and people need to be aware of that.

What’s particularly disconcerting about the Venezuela stuff is how entire parts of the foreign policy establishment are endorsing/running cover for an administration that clearly has no plan or actual strategy

Every now and then you stumble on a positive game review thats just like: "After putting in 200 hours I can say this isn't as bad as the reviews say. Yes it's a huge grind, it's nightmarish. It was painful to have lost so much progress because my save got corrupted." Then it just ends no positives.

My guess is they're going to try to get some "operators" to kidnap Maduro, try to redo the Panama invasion and capture of Noriega, with this serving as the plausible deniability fig leaf, that's not us those are mercenaries trying to get this bounty.
