the thing is, there is no liberatory politics that is not earnest and cringe. the only thing that can motivate us to stand with each other in solidarity, to fight for a better world for our neighbors as much as for ourselves is a deep-seated, earnest love for and belief in other people.
I saw a critique of Springsteen's new song, it being too earnest and cringe, and if I could just take a second to introduce you to the entire Bruce Springsteen catalogue we could settle this in a heartbeat.
