Well folks, looks like Crunchyroll is insistent on going down the drain. Anyone that's got a subscription, might be time to cancel it because their content quality is only going to get worse from here.
Important update: I have received word from insiders that Crunchyroll executives have deemed the user backlash to be small enough that their subtitle enshittification & OOONA plans will NOT be cancelled, only delayed.

This is basically the same nonsense they did in the UK. It does nothing but make government surveillance AND brainwashing of children easier. No matter what political opinions you have, the government having full say over what media your children consume is not a good thing.

Oh I recognize this trope, this is the one where a dumbfuck executive tries to monetize other people's volunteer labor, while vastly overestimating what people would be willing to pay for it (nothing), driving the company they bought off a cliff! It's a sub variant of enshitification. Classic!
TV Tropes is blocking access to the site not only if you have ad blockers on but location tracking off unless you want to subscribe to their $5 a month/$25 a year subscription plan. Even people who have turned their ad blockers off are reporting the site isn’t working. This all seems like a bad idea

You know, when I heard of EA being sold to some investment company, I believed it to be dead. I was not aware it could be even deader. I suppose generative AI is useful to create new iterations of FIFA, where they really don't need any new content, just iterations of old stuff.
