"Let people enjoy things" isn't the populist cri de coeur some people seem to think it is. It's giving everyone who gets rich making entertainment products for mass consumption cover to cater to the lowest common denominator. At least make them put some effort into taking your hard-earned money!

You know, some days I sit and think about how absolutely wild it is that we've built a society where we don't provide a place for people to even sleep at night without having to pay for it, and that we've somehow made it seem like that's normal.

One of the things I love best about Reiner is he always presented romantic love as something that required effort. Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride. Love takes time, love takes care, love doesn’t solve all your problems but it can make your problems bearable.

"I consider 35-year-olds the most interesting protagonists" is in the Bluesky Terms of Service
Used Our Town in Woodworking because it is the platonic ideal of a play about being 35, and I consider 35-year-olds the most interesting protagonists.
Same thing for "Our Town." Don't make 14 year olds do that play, have a bunch of 35 year olds read that play

not sure how to square ‘no one person can be reasonably expected to pay for every media subscription’ with ‘sorely underpaid writers need to make a living’ but my inclination is not to locate that problem with any of the broke ass people on either end of the complaint

the issue here, especially with TCM, is more than half of its programming came from the Turner, and later WB, library. If you remove the network from the library, how is it going to afford to license 100% of its programming?
I just heard from someone at Netflix. TCM is apparently going with the other linear networks to Discovery Global.

Here is the official comment on what WBD assets will be acquired by Netflix:

"We are acquiring the film and television studios, HBO and HBO Max."
