Why is this advice always aimed at children avoiding their parents, and never at older people belligerently and inevitably regurgitating Facebook opinions so offensive their own kids would rather skip Christmas dinner than endure them?
Yeah, no thanks.

Stop guilting people about being estranged from family members. It someone is they likely have personal reasons for being so.

I’m entering The Teenager as potential winner of #Duvetknowitschristmas

He’s had to move from his bedroom to the unconverted attic

Cardboard floor & headboard is a nice touch which I’m sure he appreciates

He think it looks like he’s living in a meth den

Well it took practically an entire year, but I finally finished watching this today. Around 90 films in total (mostly shorts, obviously) and there were hardly any I didn't like much. Two of the all-time greats.
Found this, second hand but in good nick, for £11 🙂

20 full-length films and a load of shorts.

Whew THIS.

I cannot understand why there are so SO many books & movies about people realizing that small towns are superior and filled with more authentic people and so so few about people ecstatically moving to cities & fucking loving all the diversity & resources they now have access to.
In the hallmark movies where the lady goes back home from the big city, they never talk about the game she must play pretending that the ethnic food in the small town is anywhere near as good as her family thinks it is. Just grimacing while eating mid Thai food.

I don't think free speech on campus ought to mean that a young coddled bigot gets to use their ignorance to casually destroy the career of a knowledgeable trans person on a random Wednesday
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

Dude did a fake presidential run to build interest in a media company, accidentally became the president, accidentally committed a bunch of crimes because he's stupid, then had to try to become the president a second time so he wouldn't go to jail and it worked
a) this is pathetic regime shit from CBS.

b) this is genuinely his dream, he would so much rather be a TV host than president.

Remember when I said Weiss was stupid and incompetent? Stuff like this. An actual television producer would understand this stuff - if not the exact schedule and procedures for how the episode was distributed, at least who they could ask who would know.
It’s actually not technically a leak. CBS News only operates in the US. A non-PSKY owned network Global TV has Canadian rights for 60 Minutes and aired it unedited since the call to pull the episode was made so late in the day. That broadcast was recorded and then shared across the internet.

Parisot (the Director) tells a story about how Tim Allen just started crying after a scene one day

"I don't like these feelings i'm having." Says Tim. "I'm going back to my trailor" and walks off.

There's silence for a second.

"Oh my god." Says Rickman. "I think Tim just experienced acting."
Galaxy Quest - a perfect movie, just a wonderful love letter to actors, sci-fi, Star Trek in particular, and to fandom - really deserves a proper physical release with decent extras. Think Weaver's right that releasing a R-rated cut would be fun, too.

Weiss, today: "The only newsroom I'm interested in running is one in which we are able to have contentious disagreements about the thorniest editorial matters with respect."

CECOT reporter, y'day: "Ori and I asked for a call to discuss her decision. She did not afford us that courtesy/opportunity."
Bari Weiss this morning on the 60 Minutes segment: "We need to be able to get the principals on the record and on camera."

Of course, most journalists know that oftentimes people who are the subject of negative reporting don't want to speak on camera or on the record.

GenAI cannot summarise anything because it cannot analyse anything because there is no intelligence there. This entire premise starts with a lie and the deceit builds from there.
The “AI” has not read the book. Even if the book was in its training data, it has just absorbed it as a set of statistics. It will juggle you a “summary” that might or might not relate to the conclusions of the actual text. The only way you’ll know is to read it yourself.
This is one of the reasons I remain horrified by seeing @historians.org suggest "ways to use gAI" that included this:
