Their chargers are smart chargers that can sense battery temps and will auto shut off if the battery temps get too high. Aside from plugging in a battery you’ve dropped on cement, the batteries are as safe as you can get (Bosch/Shimano)
justmeinottawa.bsky.social
A million times this 👏👏👏

And it’s an important fact that is hard to have break through when “e-bike” is a catch all term for bikes at Walmart and electric dirt bikes in the same bucket. And the issue isn’t about just bad batteries. Bosch/Shimano chargers are an important piece of this too

Or we could just have mandatory e-bike battery quality standards ... none of the e-bike fires are happening with Bosch or Shimano systems. www.gazellebikes.com/en-us/blog/e...

This anecdote about Karina Gould is awful. To use one of Carney's beloved hockey analogies, crosschecking a promising young female politician -- a colleague -- is very troubling.

This man is a C-suite executive, with all the arrogance & nastiness that too often brings.
Carney, a one-time Goldman Sachs executive and former governor for both the Bank of England and the Bank of Canada, had won the race in a landslide, despite having zero political experience. The evening of his victory, he gathered with jubilant advisers for a victory party in a backroom. There, they got a text from a staffer for Karina Gould, the 38-year-old MP from Burlington, Ontario, who’d run against Carney for the party leadership. Gould had made a few mild pokes at Carney during the campaign. In one debate, she took a jab at his reputation as a fiscally focused technocrat: “You can’t bring a calculator to a knife fight,” she said, referring to the trade war with the U.S.

The attacks were genteel compared to most political mud-slinging, and Liberals warmed to her during the campaign. They embraced her as both a cherished member of the Liberal family and, increasingly, the standard bearer for its left flank. But her needling got under Carney’s skin, even though he was the front-runner (she ultimately received only three per cent of the vote). He and his staff made their irritation plain; one member of Gould’s team told me that many of them were aggressive in their vitriol toward her.

When someone from Gould’s team texted to ask if she could stop by and congratulate the winner, Carney said no. In fact, according to one source I spoke with, he said he didn’t ever want to see her again. Carney’s staff sent Gould a non-committal answer, trying not to offend her, but she showed up anyway. That led to a brief, awkward meeting with Carney.

The incident rattled some of the people around the newly elected leader. Many had worked under Justin Trudeau, who, after a lifetime in politics, had skin like a crocodile. Carney, after years of being celebrated, venerated and treated with the deference accorded to a titan of the financial world, seems to have a skin like a peach.

It must be nice to not have any original ideas and get to just try and pedal racist policies in a more digestible manner, to account of “Canadian politeness” and get paid shit loads of money by us to do it

Conservative immigration critic Michelle Rempel Garner says automatic citizenship should be limited to those who have at least one parent who is either a citizen or a permanent resident.

Rempel Garner tried to amend a government bill on Tuesday to do just that, but her motion was voted down.

This shouldn't be particularly surprising, but Apple's public marketing efforts would certainly have you believe that they're a slick and progressive company that would never collaborate with fascists.

Never forget what they actually are.

One of my final interactions on Twitter was to post asking if anyone had an old bike that I could buy to use as a winter commuter.

Someone instead offered me a free bike. We learned we lived nearby. I brought him a case of beer in exchange.

I still ride that bike and we still correspond.

i think it is cool that a government run by fanatical bigots is on track to plunge the economy into a mountain and cause a food crisis

So this is funny.
The administration just issued a rule slashing foreign agricultural worker wages. And to justify it, in a public filing, Trump's Labor Department alleges that Trump's immigration enforcement has devastated the Ag workforce and caused a "risk of supply shock-induced food shortages."

In a filing in the Federal Register, the Labor Department argues there are “immediate dangers to the American food supply” due to a lack of migrant agricultural workers.

This is not to excuse the driver, but the reason why we are even watching this video and why it’s not a fatality is because Airdrie has a city wide 30km/h speed limit.

30km/h has an significantly lower fatality risk in driver vs walker collisions.

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

Tamara Lich and Chris Barber peacefully protested the imposition of emergency measures that the Federal Court found to be unlawful and unconstitutional.

Instead of pursuing rapists, drug dealers and other monsters, the Crown sought lengthy prison sentences.

Justice Perkins-McVey rightly rejected the Crown's request, and sent Tamara and Chris home to their families.

We must get to a justice system that ensures the security and freedom of all Canadians.

I wish Chris and Tamara a peaceful and happy life.
