Born in Bristol in 1821 Elizabeth Blackwell first showed an interest in medicine when a friend almost died after being too shy to visit a male doctor. As an adult in America she became the first woman to graduate with a medical degree in the USA and their first female physician.

Anyway, do I have a cover for one of my novels that's coming out next year? No, not yet. Do I have five minutes to goof off in Canva while I wait for a phone call? Yes, yes I do.

Look if you're going to wind ppl up about Prince you gotta be smart and use the "He was a Jehovah's Witness" angle and not something absolutely insane like "he was not good at music"
He's a God and we got to be on earth the same time as him so show some goddamn respect
I just blocked someone I've never interacted with for trying to argue that Prince was a bad singer

Oh, and incidentally. Those other writers, they are not your competition. They are your colleagues, and the kinder, more generous you are to them the better things will go for you.
2/2 "fame" is not evenly temporally distributed; some people are hot out of the gate, some build over time, some get hot years or even decades after their debut. Every writer you meet, "famous" or not, will remember how you treated them, their friends, and why. Treat everyone as having value.

I feel this. It's no coincidence that gardening was something I enjoyed this year. Fewer devices, less tracking, more care. Paper books, friends IRL, walking, tea, perfume, cinema, gigs...
Just be mindful that the attention economy is *not*your friend and not everything is accomplished by shopping.
Buttons are back. Knobs are back. Dumb devices are back. Own-it-forever software is back. Print is back. Personal websites and chronological feeds are back. Touching grass is back. People keep saying 2015, but it’s not far enough. The entire 2010s were a mistake. We must retvrn to… 2009.
Amazingly, reaction times using screens while driving are worse than being drunk or high—no wonder 90 percent of drivers hate using touchscreens in cars. Finally the auto industry is coming to its senses.

Dear Roy, Before Christmas you had a Wheelie Bin pinched. I have just had a Satellite Dish taken from my garden. I used this as a Parabolic Reflector for recording Birdsong. So if anyone sees this at a car boot sale, be careful as it may be Radioactive.

[screaming at the top of my lungs, once again] the fundamental technology of humanity is care
We didn't survive and thrive as a species because we had warriors or hunters - pretty much every omnivore can manage that.

We did so because we developed Grandmothers, and domesticated Dogs.

Community is what defines us as a species, and every "self-reliant" libertarian shitweasel be damned.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Republicans motivate their core voters to show up every cycle and they do. Democrats just assume their equivalent will do the same and spend the entire cycle pursuing swing voters, meanwhile depressing core turnout. Then they blame those core voters when they lose. The cycle must be broken.
What got us Trump was the GOP being a malevolent force for evil and the Democrats at every turn refusing to fire full blast at the right (including before Trump). It’s obviously not all on Harris but a cycle with Democrats assuming the left would just show up without any motivation is a big reason.
They have a point. “She didn’t earn my vote” got us Trump. Like I think it’s good to push against the party for better policy but when the alternative is Trump, it’s too much.

One thing that gets me every time this comes up is when somebody turns evil and people act like they were evil their whole life. No.

Children are not born evil or hateful or bigoted. That behaviour is learned and people learn it at different points in their lives.
