Ok, I'm gonna start a little thread here for something I've been doing for fun lately: making designs for things that don't exist.

First up: ah, yes, that classic computer game of the early 90s:

This would be the most effective (and not the most expensive) "nation building project" we could possibly do.
I think if Canada wants to have a strong cultural identity we need to go back to doing what we're best at, making the weirdest fucking TV shows you've ever seen

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

When I made the religious extremists in Phobos & Deimos Buddhists, it was for 2 reasons. One, because I knew it would go against the expectations of most of my readers for Buddhism to be the one, & two, because I know enough history to know people like this exist in every religion, every philosophy.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

It’s getting harder not to say out loud “get a smaller car” every time I see a giant F-U-50 that doesn’t fit in a parking lot or needs to block the road so they can get the doors open. You chose to make life difficult for both of us so you could pretend you work on a farm.

I’m still very much down this rabbit hole of revolutionary fiction. Les Miserables counts as a revolutionary journey, I’ve decided. A key element has to be that by the end the protagonist is MOTIVATED by the revolution, not just adjacent to it. Jean Valjean is, I think.

95% of authors are not making a living through book publishing. The public needs to understand this.

Fuck the border, fuck CBSA (Canadian Border Services Agency) - these people are just trying to make a living. Let them stay, you fascists
In the U.S., it’s common police departments don’t want to engage with immigration enforcement because it destroys trust with immigrant communities, notes Irene Bloemraad, a UBC sociology professor.

This should have been an instructive moment in people’s understanding of just how much people are willing to pay economically for racism and xenophobia.
Still reeling from the Stanford report on Brexit. Reduced GDP by up to 8% and investment by as much as 18%. The UK Treasury would have £40 billion more each year if Britain had remained in the EU. Devastating self-immolation.

I got to the end of Revolutionary Girl Utena and while the ending did solve some things, I still have more questions than answers. Seeking those answers is, of course, foolish. Demanding answers is a coffin you choose to sit in instead of being free.

I’m planning on writing a blog post about revolutions in fiction, and I need ideas for movies, books, etc. where the main character starts the story not a revolutionary but becomes one by the end.

I did the Frieren meme. To be fair to the original artist, this is definitely the hardest pose to draw a face in without reference. I don’t think I got it 100%.

It’s heartening to see that someone else thinks about birds the way I think about birds. Birds are cool. Some of them are very nice. Most of them are not trustworthy. Some of them are heinous. All of them are dinosaurs. youtu.be/yJrSY1Rx7eY?...

I love drawing on paper. I’ll draw with natural media in the real world over drawing digitally any day of the week. And yet, Darryl is 100% correct here. Drawing digitally is NOT ai, and is 100% real. Look, you can see the artist’s hand. This is a real artist making real art.
besides the fact that you’re snarking at an ad, I think that some of you fellas have Lost the Plot.

Drawing digitally is not a problem at all. This is not ai, we can see the artist in the video drawing!! What is your problem, man

the reason 101 dalmations looks like that is because disney incorporated xerography (ie early photocopying technology) into the animation process. rough pencils (by mostly male animators) were copied onto the cels so that disney could fire the (mostly female) inkers. remember that art can lie to you
