Remember when overt racism from elected officials was bad
Trump: "Ilhan Omar, whatever the hell her name is. With her little turban. I love her. She comes in, does nothing but bitch ... we ought to get her the hell out ... she's here illegally."

Recent personal example of this! I've wanted/needed to learn both Lua and Typst for Quarto stuff I'm working on. I've used Claude to help learn both, but I've been more deliberate about figuring out Lua & have spent hours fighting with it and asking about tiny details & now I'm *okay*ish at it (1/2)

corridor urbanism is a public health nightmare.

just going to leave this here. maybe one day we won't have electeds that are this bad on urbanism

after @ronpdavis.bsky.social attended the cascadian innovation corridor conference's presentation on upzoning 'grand boulevards' in region - he asked me to write about this concept.

corridor zoning is antithetical to livability, public health, & walkability.

'corridor urbanism' isn't urbanism.

but it is a way to funnel renters and poor people into the worst parts of our region while protecting sky high home values
Washington's Transportation Commission is holding a work session on "corridor urbanism" this morning, something that continues to circulate around state level planning after being promoted by Chris Gregoire's think-tank.

Two minutes of footage of wheelchair users on bike lanes in Paris. A classic video I posted on Twitter a few years ago I had not posted here yet.

Indigenous developments were totally exempt from the community approvals and all zoning limitations. Believe it or not the liberal white residents nearby with their “in this house we believe” signs found ways to call it a greedy development out of scale with the context
I take a look at the growth of indigenous urbanism, and some of the incredible developments being built by Canada's First Nations, in this HIGH SPEED dispatch:

I appreciate living in an apartment from the 1950's (maybe even earlier) located in a walkable neighborhood but don't appreciate that it's so energy inefficient and there only being a single original wall heater in one room that the rest of the rooms reach 58 degrees during our East Bay winter.

Tired: flat streets

Wired: Speed humps, tables, etc

Inspired: Speed *dips*, because modern clearance and suspension makes taking speed bumps at speed no big deal, but dips still make drivers worry they'll damage their car, and that has the highest level of encouraging compliance

Yes! This is a fantastic thread from @warrenjwells.bsky.social and we need this measured look at what is actually happening with e-bikes (and dangerous e-motos) since all we currently have is the moral panic articles and op-eds mentioned in the thread.
You should submit this as an op Ed to the NYTimes, and SF, Bay area, and marin newspapers

We've spent a ton of time talking about teens getting injured on e-bikes (or illegal e-motos).

We've heard that crash rates are skyrocketing. Marin County Dept of Health even set up a dashboard to see how many e-bike/e-moto crashes are happening.

But how many kids are getting hurt *in cars*?
