The birthrate debate is only a "debate" for racists (great replacement theory) and hardcore capitalists (who fear the greatest wealth redistribution since Reagan—only going the opposite direction.) It is not a debate for serious people. 20yrs from now a lower birthrate will be a feature, not a bug.

A neighbor was taken to a care facility, and her little tortoiseshell kitty was left behind. I can't take her in but I've been feeding her and giving her water every day. No one in the neighbor's family can take her in. Is there anyone in the Inland Empire area that could foster or adopt her?

It is grim!

I was proud to spend 10 years of my life at CNN, many years at ABC and 3 years at CBS during a pandemic that shaped history for the entire world.

Sadly, the credibility crisis we see in legacy media is mostly a management failure, not a journalism failure.

A devastating loss.
At the start of every year, I write a column for NPR trying to predict big media trends. Must say, I have never written a more pessimistic column w/one shining hope: Today's media consumers have more power than they realize, and they are using it. READ: https://loom.ly/0NqWH54
2026 looks ominous for media, from Hollywood to journalism
Critic at large Eric Deggans says that in 2026, audiences have more power than they realize to determine the future of news and entertainment.

A lot of replies here (obviously from people not already aware of The Discourse on this point) were genuinely confused variants on "But why, they're right, that's a valid concern." Let me leave a short thread for future readers explaining why that stuff is always unwelcome on here. (1/n)

Terrific read on the Blizzard of 1996 (this week marks 30-year anniversary) in Northern Virginia magazine. CWG's Jason Samenow and Kevin Ambrose quoted in story, along with legendary NBC4 meteorologist Bob Ryan: northernvirginiamag.com/news/2025/12...
Whiteout: 30 Years Later, Look Back at the Historic Blizzard of 1996
Three decades ago, 30 inches of snow shut down much of the East Coast. Here's what we remember from the blizzard of 1996.

Indie writers take note. The Zon is ignoring requests from both authors and former publishers to take down fraudulent listings.

Read's Lili's blog for details. And if you are over there and see this high-priced forgery with no cover? You could protest it as a fraud.

ABC News marked the occasion with a montage of vintage cigarette ads.
