"romantic" because he's a bilionaire.

If he lived in a trailer park it would be an episode of Criminal Minds.

I would die for the baby tapir
The adorable newborn tapir calf is already mastering the art of wiggling its tiny trunk. 🥰

Baby tapirs use their tiny trunks for sniffing, exploring, and even grasping small objects. Their trunks are an extended upper lip and nose, which helps them sense their surroundings and forage as they grow.

I’m sad to learn that my law school classmate, Kiah Duggins, died in the DC plane crash last night.

Kiah was an exceptionally talented civil rights lawyer and aspiring legal scholar.

I hope you’ll read about her work and the causes she cared about, some of which I’ll 🧵 below.

What an immense loss

A hallmark of a state that is coming apart is when regular people have to think about the government all the time.
Government when it's running well is invisible.

Government that is failing? It is omnipresent.

“Trump wants to wear you out, the way Putin has exhausted his people. He needs you to believe that America is irretrievably broken, so that when you pull away, you never get pulled back in. ”
Political parties want you to think you have to be a professional to get involved, that politics are a priesthood open only to the initiated.

That is nonsense.

The people who have been running this show for decades led us here – so why should we trust them to lead us out?

I mean, Jesus kinda is a bit of a softie.

You don’t sacrifice your life in a painful and humiliating death to save the people who caused that suffering if you’re not at least a little bit woke about the suffering they are going through.

Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.

Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.

When I captioned the news, I was supposed to clean up people's speech a bit, removing false starts & filler words, etc.

Captioning Trump as close to verbatim as I could & still get it past QA was one very small yet satisfying thing I could do to feel less helpless.
I had a relative compelled into service to the enemy. He mistranslated all the manuals for captured equipment so that The Thing Don't Work.

Mistranslate the manuals, whatever that means for you.
a key take away from reading a lot of history for me:

the people who survive hard times and eventually brutally humiliate their seemingly invincible enemies are not the people whose first response to adversity is “oh well, guess I’ll die”
