As we mourn Rob Reiner, don’t skip this: he was, pretty much, personally responsible for overturning California’s Prop 8 banning same sex marriage.

This isn't even a slight exaggeration. He is actively working on destroying the US's entire vaccine infrastructure. The HepB vote will be tomorrow, where they will get rid of the birth dose and recommend it at 30 days, dooming a bunch of infants to chronic infection ft. cirrhosis, cancer, and death.

This would be amazing, and the result of concerted pressure by people working inside the NIH to explain how bad things were and get grants out despite politically imposed red tape, and, to their credit, Congress and the media for calling the administration on their bullshit.

betting against the cowardice of Dems so far has had a poor track record but I don't think this is going to work, especially not after Trump has publicly wiped his ass with the first amendment

the base might literally eat them alive if they just fold here and even Schumer, I think, knows it

There's so much to unpack -- his childish understanding of the world, his raw nerve of grievances, his sociopathy -- but I can't get past what a whiny, pathetic loser you'd have to be as president to stamp your little feet and cry that the media isn't "allowed" to be mean to you. Mom said so guys!
Trump:

"When you have a network, and you have evening shows, and all they do is hit Trump... They're not allowed to do that."

Today in “neither our media nor our political system is designed to deal with a far right authoritarian party”
watching national reporters who live in DC do this is really embarrassing. no one speaking at this conference was raising a legitimate issue.

New, from me: I became a PhD student mostly because one person, Patricia Wallace Ingraham, told me I should do it.

She passed away recently, and it made me think about the role of mentorship in our lives. open.substack.com/pub/donmoyni...

It's a bizarre and frankly alienating feeling realizing that if you know the basic fact that the murder rate has gone down significantly since 1990 you're in the ~90th+ percentile of fact-knowers
Once again, Gen X is super wrong, but they're confidently wrong.

of course, now conservatism is practically defined by a profound victim mentality, in which everyone else is to blame for your own shortcomings and failures

when i was younger conservatives used to call stuff like this an “entitlement” or “victim” mentality. the response, if this were a nonwhite person, would be “suck it up a d work harder.”
This guy *admits* he applied for "countless" tenure-track positions and ultimately had to leave academia because nobody would hire him. He claims, though, that Ivy League Cornell filled their position with a Black person who couldn't possibly be more qualified than him.

This is great news. It is also as clear as a signal that Congress wants to keep the Department of Education and most of it's programs. So why is the Supreme Court allowing Trump to fire its employees and end those programs?
New: More than two dozen U.S. Senators, including 14 Republicans, advanced a budget bill today that emphatically rejects Trump's education proposals:
-Few funding cuts
-No blockgrants
-Small increases for Title I, IDEA, Head Start
-Education Department staffing remains
