This is how far you have to scroll on the NYTimes homepage to get any coverage of what's going on day-to-day in an occupied American city where schools are closing because the government is checking the papers of all brown or Asian people then brutalizing, imprisoning or killing them.

This is surreal. 4 Oglala Lakota men kidnapped by ICE in Minneapolis have finally been located. One of them was released but the other 3 are being held at Fort Snelling, a former concentration camp used to imprison Native people incl. the Dakota 38 during Dakota Wars.

important to clarify that he means the ELECTED Democrats couldn’t hold it together. the PUBLIC did, and that’s why we were furious. government employees who were out of work still firmly insisted a shutdown was worth it. eating ramen every night to defend our healthcare, but their senators caved
Asked if he's willing to shut down the government over ICE funding, Senator Cory Booker replies: "We had the longest government shutdown, and Democrats could not hold together to sustain that kind of pressure."

Friends, Claudette Colvin—the 15-year-old who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus in March 1955 & joined the federal case against bus segregation that went to the Supreme Court — died today at age 86. But there are lots of myths and mis-impressions about her. A short corrective thread:

You know how people are like "well we should just have a general strike it's simple" and then us folks who've done labor stuff are like "cute yeah try pulling that off without unions"

Well
Unions and community orgs are calling for a Minnesota-wide shutdown in 10 days to protest the ferocious assault by federal immigration agents. They're saying on Jan 23, no work, no school, no shopping. SEIU Local 26, UNITE HERE Local 17, & others are supporting, w/ more to join. By me, Amie Stager

Over at @avlblade.bsky.social we had to ban about four times as many people for transphobia as the year before. While a bit of this was due to an even more belligerent far-right, most of it was liberals and centrists being way more openly bigoted about trans people.
I can't help but notice that as trans acceptance backslides that casual allyship amonst cis people, even those that claim allyship loudly, is down noticeably.

A few years ago, cis strangers would defend my pronouns, now it's back to mostly close friends, mostly queer people.

It makes sense that something that has made money before, marketers might push it as a sure thing. And yet... it doesn't even feel THAT organic.
