The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.

Its /so/ baffling since the 2020s working age voter pool was a far more favourable demographic for Labour than the pre-1980s working age voter pool!

But, the 2020s worker is a woman with a degree, and the (mythologised) pre-1980s worker was big strong man down mines, and Politics Is All Gender Now.

The tragedy of the Biden administration is it did not have to be a blip and interregnum in the Long Trump Era, but thanks to choices made, largely his own, it will at best be remembered as an attempt to govern without doing politics, a failure compounded by his disastrous support for genocide abroad

The problem with college-as-vocational-training is that there are really very few professions that NEED college as vocational training. You're not validating domain knowledge; you're verifying the applicant is reasonably bright and can do work consistently for four years without parents looming.
There are a lot of big questions at play here, but the most fundamental might be: what is the point of college?

some significant part of this is just catch-all fear for “this is not the child I ordered” I think
Oh, here's a big surprise. The transphobes don't believe in ADHD either.
then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

What's just fan-fucking-tastic is that all these horrible immigration policies are designed to win over the white working class. Well they can see non-high earners being called takers not givers too. Bet hero voters just love being called spongers.
This is so disgusting.

racists roll their eyes at this, they're not happy with any message short of 'send them all back' & they don't trust labour trying to pander to them. people who aren't racist recognise this as divisive patronising nonsense. labour's approval rating is 12% and i'm surprised it is that high
This is so disgusting.

The ideology that was sold to tech workers by tech owners was that the workers were not like other workers, that they were very special boys who were entitled to high salaries and cushy perks due to the STEMy brilliance required to do their job. Easy to see the lie now that it's falling apart.

It does feel like half the stories in the UK press only make sense if you follow Enoch1488, a peadophile on twitter who they have decided is the voice of True Working Class Brits
At some point the media’s view of their jobs changed from holding politicians accountable to active scalp hunting over relatively nothing. They’re trying to use a relentless drum-beat of less than honest narrative creation to try and force resignations in a way they never did before.

Lots of people sharing this clip because it's funny and cathartic but I also genuinely believe it's important.

We have to win the narrative battle between "I live in a corrupt society and that's just how it is" and "I live in a corrupt society and we are going to defeat and humiliate these ghouls."

Look, women no longer do shit for free is actually at the root of a lot of social disruption. The question is whether you think the solution is women going back to being unpaid and unprotected by their own labor.

yes I don't really see how you can go "oh yikes these people have changed their political views incredibly quickly, mostly because of what Very Online people talk about on social media" and also think that people who went from never talking about gender to calling trans women predators are....normal
I don’t like subtweeting people I consider online friends, but there is a subset of people who are very worried about the ongoing radicalisation of our political elite but won’t ever acknowledge the echoes with the radicalisation of their colleagues on trans rights
And few who are sympathetic to us, some who are friendly with me on here, will ever stick their head above the parapet

Labour's governing ideology is convenientism: it would be convenient if, e.g. reducing legal immigration fixed their electoral problem with the boats. It would be convenient if you could reduce poverty only with popular measures like hiking the minimum wage, etc. etc. etc.
hmm, what exactly is her theory of the economy? i'm lost what a coherent if wrong viewpoint looks like here

Most of the public know what’s going on with flags on lamp posts.

Crucially for the government, 78% of its 2024 voters think anti-minority sentiment is involved in flying England flags (versus just 15% who think it’s just a national pride thing).

They are getting the politics of this all wrong.
Why do people think England flags have been raised on lampposts?

White adults
National pride: 26%
Anti-migrant/minority sentiment: 49%
Both: 19%

Ethnic minority adults
National pride: 15%
Anti-migrant/minority sentiment: 55%
Both: 20%
