If you read the post it’s actually kind of interesting. Dude wasn’t much of a reader. A text heavy rpg that he really liked pushed him to read more. He’s a dad of young kids so not a ton of free time to commit to a game but snippets of reading over the year and he finished 40 books. Good on him!

Remember that discourse about Gen Z only wanting to be influencers? Well it turns out everybody else does too.
i think a (perhaps underappreciated) aspect of this whole situation is the extent to which every elite profession is filled with people who excel at drawing attention and want to be famous more than they want to do the actual job

Another huge issue, and I don't think people even know this is a thing, is that just about everything is done with smart phones now. And many (most?) seniors literally cannot work their phones. Signing things, texting, dealing with spam and fraud or even using the basic functions? They're often lost

I get where this argument keeps coming from but i feel that it is built on the assumption that doing this will result in fixing the issues of game developer wages/layoffs, nickel-and-dime live service models, unfinished/unpolished releases, etc. and no one has faith that that will be the case

I love dudes that are so blisteringly out of touch with anything normal that they can't wrap their head around the idea of "if something is too expensive, fewer people will want to buy it"
AAA video games should cost $100 on launch. this would still be extremely cheap for the amount of time and enjoyment you get out of them! But an audience of whiny babies has kept them literally at the same price for *two decades* despite both general inflation *and* sector-specific costs rising

maybe don't make games that need to cost $100

Of course not, but you're not selling as many copies at a higher price point. These two posts are completely ignoring the quotes who are engaging with the reality of AAA gaming supply and demand instead of their own personal choices as an argument
The responses this post is getting, combined with the animating grievances of large swathes of politics, has convinced me we need a kind of society wide PSA about how Buying Things Is Optional.

You don’t think video games should cost $100? Don’t buy the videogame. Buying Things Is Optional.

Gonna meet up with family I haven't seen in a couple years and I've been thinking about the best way to get out of talking about myself and this is the best I've come up with:
Them: What's going on with you?
Me: Well, I'm not legally allowed to talk about it, but the trial starts next week.
