This is all designed to break us.

Many of you are actively acting as demotivator agents. Others are propaganda victims, drowning in manmade despair. Your functions are the same

I’ve said it and I believe it is true

There is a willful forgetting and suppression of the memory of the hundreds of protests that shook this nation for the past decade and a half. So while Canadians and European laypeople whine “Americans don’t do anything,” the Americans are actively suppressed

In 2019, the rate of fatal police shootings in the US was 3.1 per million residents. By contrast, the rate in France was 0.14 per million, and in Germany, it was lower.

In Germany, police officers discharged a total of 85 bullets at people in the entire year of 2011.

"New York has broken the state record for flu cases in a single week.

The state's 71,123 cases in the week ending Dec. 20, 2025."

Yes, you can STILL get your flu shot. Flu peaks thru February but can extend to May!

NYC folks, call 311. If you need a free shot, you can get it at a City hospital.

DJT's shitty war-on-the-poor tarriff policy rebounding against the U.S. monopolies that were given global protection from competition so they could charge rents in exchange for the U.S. promising free trade w other countries, then reneging.
Please, please world, DO THIS.

Doctorow argues that nations rolling back anticircumvention laws to allow devices and software to be modified after sale without the permission of manufacturers will threaten US dominance and enable domestic tech growth. Too cute by half but it's an interesting bargaining chip.

We need to otherize weird right wing billionaires like the smear campaigns they fund against minorities do. Musk leads a baby breeding cult and Thiel wants to suck up the blood of young people. They’re fucking weird and more people need to know.

Gold is now over $4500/ounce, and the oversimplified but still correct reason is that investors don’t trust the US dollar or American assets and debt instruments anymore.

It’s ominous in terms of the US economic picture—but the good news might be the eventual withdrawal of capital support for MAGA.
This piece is a great illustration of how the long-term effect of Trump’s destruction of US institutions won’t be felt in a dramatic market collapse, but rather in permanently worse economic conditions, and lower prosperity.

There is a genuine sadness to this era of tech. This IS the Rot Economy, and what you get when growth is all that matters. Every person defending LLMs is ultimately defending growth itself. It’s not about technology and hasn’t been for a long time. It’s about more things to sell and develop for.

I *highly* recommend that you avoid reviewing the primary source materials from the Epstien files.

As an average joe, you personally do not* need to know the specific details of what went down.

Professionals with training and experience and mental health counseling are already going thru em.
And as several folks are saying in the comments: curiosity about the Epstein files is understandable, but just for yourself personally, think carefully about what you want in your head forever.

It will come to you later in upsetting ways that you may not expect.

I promise you- people think they want to know the lurid details- they don't. I spent 30 years reading accounts of CA/SA and that shit never leaves your head.
I'm interested in knowing who was on public payroll and didn't do their jobs. And I'm happy to wait for the truth so it sticks.

feels like at some point if there are still books being written, the one about how all of these supposedly very savvy business leaders simply said “you’ve got a bag of magic beans? take my cow, please” when it was offered to them will be a particularly humiliating one
The exec that said "we thought it was farther along then it was" is absolutely the greatest issue right now. Not only is it not capable of doing any of these things on a broad scale, it will do them significantly worse than any employee. Going all in on something to boost stock value that fails.
Honestly im shocked

The original NYT story only mentioned transactions between 2015 and 2016, but this makes it clear Thiel's VC was investing with Epstein's money until April 2019.

This also means Thiel's VC fund was under scrutiny in the SDNY Epstein investigation, just to be clear.
That's a lot of transactions between Jeffery Epstein's Southern Trust and Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures.

I think a case can be made that 9/11 gut-shot the long 20th century, and it took 15 years or so for the effects of that to fully make themselves known
My beloved AP European History teacher always said that modern centuries only truly "begin" 14 to 18 years after the technical turn of the calendar:

1517 (Luther's Theses)
1618 (Defenestration of Prague)
1714 (Peace of Utrecht)
1815 (Napoleon defeated)
1914 (WWI begins)

and

2016 (Trump wins)

But neighboring Alameda County, home to Oakland and Berkeley, remained in the program.

A widespread data-sharing program highlights financial ties between local police and immigration enforcement—and how even sanctuary jurisdictions still feed “the deportation machine.”
