Feeling for the kids here in Ontario. It’s an early and bad flu season already.

How an influenza virus infects a human cell [via ETH Zurich] 🧪🥼🦠😷⚕️

"Researchers were surprised by one thing: the cells are not passive, simply allowing themselves to be invaded by the influenza virus. Rather, they actively attempt to capture it."

I got mine a few days ago. Hubby has become immunocompromised to a significant level.

Full disclosure, I am afraid of vaccines for various reasons; most of which aren’t valid. Also, I tend to hyper focus and feel everything. Which honestly, I did this time too.

Grateful to get it though..
One of largest COVID vax studies ever (28 MILLION people) recently published.

Results:
• 74% lower risk of death from severe COVID-19
• 25% lower risk of all-cause mortality
• No increase in 4-year mortality
• Jabbed had lower risk of death from any cause.

NEW RESEARCH: Indigenous housing inequality will drive up health impacts and costs in Canada unless policy changes are made to improve energy efficiency, increase climate resilience and support well-being. Read our latest report with Indigenous Clean Energy 🧵⬇️

Healthy Energy Homes
Housing inequality among Indigenous communities in Canada is an expensive problem, both in terms of dollar figures and—more importantly—lives.

As Canada builds an innovation economy around “defence” (to the aspirational tune of 5% of GDP) we’re going to be confronted with a lot of these awful transactions.

Revisiting a framework for assessing the social, political and ethical dimensions of defence spending and trade might be in order.

Pretty much every article about the Putin-Kushner-Witkoff summit in Moscow yesterday fails to mention that Kushner is simultaneously accepting tens of millions in annual payments from the Saudis and other foreign governments.

Seems like a key detail!

Indeed.

Yes it is.
As Chantal Hébert said, folks are missing the climate forest for the pipeline trees.

Carney rolled back major climate policies for Alberta, now! In exchange for a lil industrial carbon price increase and the BS that is carbon capture!

Forgetting the pipeline, this is BAD for the climate crisis!
I'm not convinced that wasn't Carney's plan all along. It isn't Ottawa that said no to Alberta. "Now you run along, Danielle, and make friends and get it done." Oh wait, you can't? Oh well then, at least you tried.

Youth First Nations leaders in B.C. are ready to take up the battle against pipelines. They're speaking out against the memorandum of understanding between Ottawa and Alberta on getting oil to the west coast.

Letter of concern to #Carney has been sent. Why are we going down this route. If Guilbeault is resigning, there are other valid options not being listened to.

Totally agree with this!

This is a terrific, informed analysis by Charlie Angus. The puzzle of how "the smartest guy in the room" could do something so seemingly....dumb.
There is no political, economic or environmental case for even pretending to consider Northern Gateway pipeline.
Mark Carney has given a huge with to Danielle Smith while reviving the environmental conflicts of Stephen Harper.
This is a huge mistake.
My latest.

So ok, an earlier repost mentioned the CEO of Blackstone, who is a major Trump supporter, involved in one of the big nation building projects.

Mr. PM, you wrote a book about values. We need to do better here. We need full disclosure about who is involved in CANADIAN nation building.

I had some issues with LNG fracking aspect of things, and noted the “indigenous” language being used. To find out that a huge Trump supporter is leading the Blackstone corp … aka American, funding and drive behind any nation building project …

I thought better of Carney.

#markcarney
Mark Carney is about to announce more of his “elbows up” major projects.

But under the surface, one that’s being sold as an Indigenous-led LNG project is actually — spoiler — American as hell.

That’s not even the worst part!

If this is true … it’s a profound breach of ethical integrity. The ultimate gaslighting.
Mind you WaPo wouldn’t release its actual diversity numbers
When I worked in WaPo Opinions in 2017-2018, senior editors specifically told junior editors not to factcheck Marc Thiessen and other MAGA columnists, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to publish anything by them at all, and “we need them for intellectual diversity.”

THIS!
Why do I say 'more qualified'? Because maybe we should have fewer wealthy people involved in politics. Maybe people who aren't willing to do public service for less than $300,000/year should fuck off, and hard-working, public service-oriented people can do the job better!
