I’m a trained social worker. I worked with cases of CSA and other horrifying traumas. I didn’t learn til 6 months before I burnt out how dangerous and cumulative vicarious and secondary trauma are.

I promise you- people think they want to know the lurid details- they don't. I spent 30 years reading accounts of CA/SA and that shit never leaves your head.

It took me years to see the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer song & TV special as akin to my experience with elementary school bullying and ostracism…and to wonder if the other reindeer continued to love him after the sleigh-guiding or if things went back to “normal” in a day or two.
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is my favorite song about how people will only love you if you're useful.

I don’t know how to process the horrific fire hose of tragedy that has been omnipresent but has spiked this weekend, and I suspect I’m not alone. We aren’t meant to carry this much suffering and be able to function at “normal” capacity. Be gentle with yourself and others, if you can.
