your periodic reminder that the safest way to cook is by temperature. The internal temperature of cooked chicken is 74^C but note that temp will rise during the resting period (that's what it's for) so if you stop cooking at 70-71 and rest for five minutes, you won't get the shits.

You don't hear many people claiming that a particular banned organisation are non violent these days

I'm also not hearing many apologies

I too wish I was gullible enough to believe in a magic "rejoin the EU and fix everything" except there isn't one and there'll never be one while Mr Toad is polling so highly.
Brexit has cost each and every one of us £3,700 a year.

But instead of solving the problem, Labour are using Brexit as an excuse to raise your taxes.

My message ahead of the Budget: Stop blaming Brexit and start fixing it!

Here's a truism - some men are highly motivated deceptive sexual predators who will go to any lengths, legal or illegal, to prey on women and children.

Not very controversial. We can all accept that one, right?

Ah, the post is here. By which I mean 12 spam leaflets and a hearing aids appointment for my mother who died in July 2024.

The government’s decision to halve the time limit for refugees to leave Home Office accommodation is driving people into homelessness and exploitation, according to migrant rights campaigners and homelessness charities

By me, for @theleaduk.bsky.social national.thelead.uk/p/new-asylum...
New asylum policies making homeless refugees “targets for the far right”
Labour’s abrupt return to the 28-day move-on period is pushing vulnerable people into rough sleeping and exposing them to fraud and abuse.

Even if never used it for anything else - which I absolutely do - the Tefal Optigrill's ability to turn a simple ham and cheese roll into an appetising lunch would still have made it a valid buy four years ago.

The hidden chemical attack that forced the Northern line’s extraordinary repair
Thirty years ago, an entire section of the Northern line had to be replaced because it was under attack from acid, and hardly anyone noticed that it was happening.

I don't think Christopher Hitchens was "a bad writer". That's one hell of a way to dismiss someone you merely disagreed with.

As an aside, an indication of how stupid I actually am is that it wasn't until last year that I realised that MMT also stands for Magic Money Tree.
would not surprise me in the least if he were an MMT crank

Forced to ask myself "would I have obeyed an illegal order" and can only answer that I would not have done so knowingly but I am not a lawyer so it's possible that I simply wouldn't have recognised one.

"This country has a plan for war with Putin. It puts the UK to shame."

Unusually, the "this country" that puts the UK to shame is in this case not Poland, Estonia, or Finland. It's Italy.

Paywalled.

While Italy sounds the alarm over Russian aggression, much of Europe is still snoozing - even as the Kremlin's sabotage campaign escalates

Google was shitty long before Gemini came along. Bad results, endless paid results to scroll past, effort made to deliberately ruin search to maximise ad views for more money.

What a Gemini has done is make promoted results obsolete. It will hurt Google's profits more than your search experience.
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

We are not yet a year into Trump’s second term and already DOGE has been mothballed, MTG has bailed from Congress, the administration tried and failed to present a Russian plan to end the war, and the ‘Secretary of War’ is trying to court-martial a US Senator. Time for a reminder of this I think…
