Started writing my annual holiday letter and was doing fine until I got to the part where I needed to talk about...you know. Everything.
I haven't really sat down and written this past year. I rarely do these days. Probably I should do it more.

A dear family friend of mine, a father, grandfather, husband, and beloved priest, passed a few years ago at a far too young age (early 60s) from illness due to asbestos exposure at an early age. Utterly gutting, even now.
Why weaken protections against this substance? Why?? It’s obscene.

This is one of those why!? moments. The Trump administration abruptly halted an FDA effort that was designed to keep asbestos out of talc-based cosmetics.

In other news, I recommend today's Daily Podcast, about the parents of a trans girl who just had to flee Tennessee for Connecticut in order to protect her. The parents are both Southerners and ministers, and had idea what "trans" was until they had to learn.
