My #MECFS scandal explainer video has just passed 200,000 views.

Given the level of interest, I’ve written a follow-up article covering key examples I didn’t include, as well as some developments since.

ME/CFS Scandal Follow up
The ME/CFS scandal goes much deeper than my 27-minute explainer video. That was just an introduction — how for decades patients were told…

Not totally terrible, but a few missing points and several almighty clangers.
First up, for the love of Bod, can we stop talking about one half of the balance sheet and focus on the net position? NZ Govt has more financial assets than liabilities. How unusual is this? Let's have a look [🧵 1/n]

Anna Breman signed a letter declaring the Reserve Bank of New Zealand supports the independence of central banks. She doesn't require or have to seek "advice" from ministers to do this, as the RBNZ has statutory independence from the government, meaning it operates autonomously.
RBNZ governor should have sought advice before signing letter of support for US Fed boss Jerome Powell
Anna Breman should not have signed the letter of support without first getting advice, Minister of Finance says.

Additional reminder: Stop presuming all unhoused people have addiction or mental health issues. But if they do, they're not less deserving of assistance and basic human empathy because they're extra icky and inconvenient. Choose not to be that asshole. #nzpol
A reminder to #nzpol specifically but everyone generally;

"They" are people. Like all humans unhoused folk just want shelter, warmth, nourishment and connection.

"They" are not the problem... 1/2

"Medicine has transformed radically since Hippocrates. Yet, there remains reticence to embrace the ways in which viral infections fuel long-term neurological and systemic disorders that can radically transform someone’s health."

“A history of post-viral conditions,” an excerpt from Invisible Illness - The Sick Times
There is a long record of associating epidemic infections with chronic physical symptoms, although rarely are these histories put in dialogue with stories of hysteria.

You know, when I woke up this morning and read the news, I thought "This is deeply fucked up, but I'm going to wait a minute and see what happens before I voice an incomplete opinion."

Now I'm thinking tomorrow may be even more fucked up.
President Trump said on Saturday that Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as Venezuela’s interim president and would act as a partner in letting the U.S. run the country. Less than two hours later, Rodríguez made clear she viewed the U.S. as an illegal invader that must be rejected.

The year is 1983. The US invaded Grenada. Unfortunately they have a long history of illegal military operations & adventurism by covert & overt means. It was illegal then as is the Venezuela thing now.

Just one book ……🤔🤓
Ok, everyone, what book is sacred enough to you to get sworn in on?
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

“Pope Leo said in a Christmas Eve sermon on Wednesday that the story of Jesus being born in a stable because there was no room at an inn should remind Christians that refusing to help the poor & strangers today is tantamount to rejecting God himself.”
