"The entire project of the US right wing, is re-establishing the permissions structures [for] the persecution and dehumanization of hundreds of millions of people, specifically so that violence, whether vigilante, interpersonal or state violence, can be used to discipline... everyone it sees fit."
I struggle with the conversations about “political violence,” because so many of them are based in not recognizing it’s a daily reality, not an anathema or some kind of rare occurrence. Any attempt to “deal with it,” that ignores this is doomed. Free to all.

Sometimes I think white peoples obsession with rewhitening media is a form of self-soothing, like sucking your thumb. if all the lantern jawed manly white men and submissive blonde thin women return, things will be okay again and the world won’t be so scary again.
Sometimes it’s just racism.
Hiring a Black woman: “identity politics”

Hiring a white guy for a job that has been held disproportionately by white guys, because he is a white guy: “subverting” identity politics!

(The author of this sentence is Dylan Byers; you will not be surprised to learn that he is a white guy.)

I'm usually a "prioritize winning elections over winning factional fights" guy but that goes out the window with anything these group chat psychos touch. We have to crush them or they'll turn the Democratic Party into Labour
like incredible takeaway from a huge overperformance by Democrats in fucking *TN*

i will again note the slight of hand here. “respecting” public opinion is defined as being subservient to public opinion. but you can respect where the public lies without making yourself a slave to its whims.
This exchange drives me nuts. Neither the interviewer nor Bazelon acknowledges that 1) abortion rights are really popular! and 2) what ICE is doing is hugely unpopular!

One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

Jimmy Fallon: And does it taste good? I bet it's great.

CEO of Company That Made Lemonade That Kills You: I don't know Jimmy, it kills you when you drink it, so I haven't, you know, I haven't had it. Yet!

Jimmy Fallon: That's amazing, that's amazing. We have some if - if the audience wants to try?
Jimmy Fallon: "And do you use ChatGPT when raising your baby?"

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

our 'better angels' are the kind of angels that massacred the Assyrian army outside the walls of Jerusalem in 2 Kings
Once again, for 2028 I'm a single issue voter and that issue is post-Trump lustration. GTFO with "better angels of our nature" for once.
They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.

The current SCOTUS majority is a bunch of sophists who like to dismiss evidence in favor of hypotheticals. They are spending enormous political capital trying to empower a guy that tried to overthrow the US government. If any good comes of this, hopefully it will radicalize people about SCOTUS.
The conservative justices have their talking point -- what if Congress turned every department into a multimember commission -- and it is totally absurd considering that has never happened under the existing law.

My second piece from Liberal Currents! Here I try and lay out the ethos that I think Liberals should adopt towards the criminality and corruption of the Trump Administration, and what virtues we should model while we work to turn the tide.

A billion dollars is such an unfathomable, inhuman amount of money that of course you can't spend it on tangible things. It has its own inertia, its own insistence on being leveraged for political influence and capital reproduction. It is an inherently dangerous concentration of wealth

i think to understand the meaning of the birthright citizenship clause to the framers of the 14th amendment, you have to understand significance of dred scott to the civil war republican party. dred scott wasn't just a bad ruling, it was understood as a rejection of the declaration itself.

The 6 far right extremists on the illegitimate Supreme Court have officially allowed fascist republicans in Texas to use their newly redrawn corrupt racist gerrymandered map in 2026.

These white supremacists won’t stop until US democracy is totally destroyed. Disgusting.

I think part of What's Going On with billionaires is that the daily friction of interacting with normal people is part of what anchors people to the real world, and once you have enough money to buy your way out of the friction you can knock down a load-bearing column propping up your sanity.
