Never forget, if you design a city for cars, it fails for everyone, including drivers.

If you design a multi-modal city that makes walking, biking & public transit attractive options, it works better for everyone, including drivers.

INCLUDING DRIVERS.

The “war on cars” has always been a lie.

People keep wondering why they're going after Venezuela. It's because they want to do regime change and control its oil, then use a big tract of land there to keep a tax free "network state" that looks like Dubai but operates like Rhodesia. They are saying this out loud! Believe them!

Life is crazy. @zachstafford.bsky.social texted me last night. “Elizabeth Warren wants to talk to us about Hollywood.”

Me: 😮😅
We have a lot of questions about the WB-Netflix-Paramount (?) deal so we got on the phone with @warren.senate.gov! To start, is this deal even legal????

BREAKING: Democrats have *flipped* a seat in Georgia's state House tonight.

Democrat Eric Gisler has won the seat, which was previously held by a Republican who resigned this fall.

This is a red territory: Trump won the district by 13% in 2024.

In Snohomish, WA river levels will be the highest in at least the last 75 years.

We are in a climate emergency.
The Snohomish River at Snohomish, WA is forecast to set a new record height of 35.30 ft on Friday. The gauge has been in service since 1949!

Rode my bike about 60mi the other day. Took a photo on a random couch next to the trail I used. I’m a cancer survivor, also got Lyme disease and long covid which made recovery seem impossible after about a decade of misery. Somehow I got better and can do something I love again.

I’ve been feeling weirdly lucky for having had both my ovaries decimated by cancer and that HRT is an option for me since the kind of cancer I had was not hormone-responsive (germ cell tumors). I got to skip perimenopause, basically. Also, premphase suuuuucked and I‘m doing better using BC as HRT
If they hadn’t burned all the witches and midwives back in the day, we’d probably know more about perimenopause and menopause right now. We know fuck all about a condition that half the population goes through because men are a bunch of plonkers*

we all got cowed into avoiding "virtue signaling" as if the public affirmation of socially agreed upon ethical principles was somehow cringey instead of a significant part of what a "society" even is. now all there's left is vice signaling, and it's reshaping society.

Repeat after me: The bike lane is not a parking / drop-off lane, irrespective of whether the car has a driver or not.
I read this story while preparing a recent talk examining what robotaxis mean for biking.

Really puts the "AVs are bicyclists' best friends" claims in perspective.

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

Gutting. How many future scientists have we lost?

I'm going to keep saying this in my effort to speak it into reality: Supreme Court should have at least 100 Justices with rotating panels (and maybe an en banc option). No single Justice should have so much power and they shouldn't be names everyone knows.
A court with a normal-ish conservative majority would have been tolerable. I'm not eager for court packing, impeaching justices, and other such options. But this court sticking around post-Trump is untenable. They've already torched their own legitimacy, the only question is what do we do about it.
Democrats need to lay the groundwork for reform by attacking the villains on the Supreme Court - loudly, angrily, personally, relentlessly. And they should start now.
