watched the 60 minutes segment. it is obviously horrifying and also i almost certainly would not have watched it unless the dullest person in the world decided to spike it to make her bosses happy (you watch it and any doubt anyone could have over *why* it got spiked goes away almost immediately).

You’ll be glad to know that this teaching method isn’t universally in use and has been turned back in a lot of places. The “Mississippi Miracle” is exactly this, and how we went from 49th in education in 2013 to 16th this year. It involved a wholesale rejection of this pedagogy.

Yglesias referring to Senator Van Hollen as a "safe seat clout-chaser" is so despicable. VH took a stand to prevent Abrego García - an innocent man - from being disappeared into CECOT for life.
matt & co’s theory of how public opinion on immigration would respond to new information was simply empirically wrong.
at this point the only reasonable conclusion is they refuse to update their priors w/ new data because the data is inconvenient for them
