I urge my colleagues in the Senate to join the majority of House Democrats in voting 'NO' on additional ICE funding this week.

ICE is a lawless agency that has brought harm and chaos to our communities. We must use what powers we have to end this horrific terror campaign.

ICE activity has not noticeably tapered off yet here and in fact this week they seem to be focused on terrorizing kids at bus stops and schools.
yes, there are no real signs of any big change in DHS activity here yet. In Chicago there really was after Bovino left and they basically ended "Midway Blitz" not so here so far.
I don’t know, declaring victory in MN seems premature. They’re still arresting people and brutalizing the community. The changes appear—so far—to be cosmetic

These oligarchs all have security analysts working for them and the first thing they would see are reports about how the solidarity of the community in Minnesota and their actions mirror the beginnings of lasting insurgencies in other countries that result in prolonged civil conflict.

You walk into this bar and show your ICE mugshot, you don't pay a dime.
Scrolling through the photos of Pam Bondi's "Minnesota rioters," it's just hero after hero. Every photo includes a cowardly DHS agent with their back to the camera.

Bondi thinks she's going to win the propaganda war with this shit, but it's never been more clear that they're losing.

Today, right now, they’ve descended upon my neighborhood in force, intimidating observers and abducting people from their cars in parking lots. Spare me the “shifting strategy” articles and keep supporting your neighbors.
please remember that no matter how many “ICE is losing in MN” articles you read today, there is still a very real, urgent, ongoing crisis in Minnesota.

people need food and they need rent money. that has not changed.

Wow. This is pretty demoralizing. @governorwalz.mn.gov go fuck yourself.
"I'm gonna give Homan the benefit of the doubt"

"They should coordinate with local law enforcement, pick these people up in the middle of the night when they're not suspecting it"

Walz is capitulating to fascists and encouraging night raids. Genuinely disgusting. Why would anyone settle for this?

it is the same playbook everywhere. “vote for us! we will make you great again by punishing the people you hate! do not pay attention to the fact that we’re also shoveling your money into the pockets of the uber wealthy and building a giant boot to step on your face too (preferably forever)”
The UK version of “Project 2025” by the Reform party includes a British ICE, a concentration camp for 24,000 people, mass surveillance and withdrawing from refugee, anti-torture and anti-trafficking conventions.

It’s on their website. That’s how comfortable fascists are in the UK today.

"don't start with a compromise" is the very first thing you learn about negotiation. the fact that Democrats always do exactly this is how you know they are a controlled opposition and not a serious party with beliefs or goals
Republicans seem to inherently understand if you aim for Jupiter you can usually force your opponents to AT LEAST meet you on the moon.

Even if Schumer doesn't want to abolish ICE (which he should), aiming for that makes dramatic progress more likely.
Chuck Schumer's starting position should be as maximalist as possible -- complete abolition of ICE, resignations of Bovino, Homan, Noem and Miller, unmasking of all agents, and prosecution by state authorities of the murderers.

Don't start with what looks like a compromise half-measure.

"simply about getting ICE back to obeying the law"

Come on. They will never obey the law. And the law itself allows them to abuse & murder with impunity via qualified immunity.

ICE OUT OF OUR CITIES is the minimum short term demand.

Defund and abolish ICE is the only moral long term course.
Here's Senator Chris Murphy's extended discussion of this group of restrictions on ICE:

For any elected official who needs to hear this, I impart a lesson learned from the NFL:

When the other team is tired and on the back foot, you don’t call a timeout so they can catch their breath. You grind their fucking face into the dirt until the final whistle blows and you’ve won the game.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Bovino's leaving? Great, get Noem to resign.

Noem resigns? Great, defund and dismantle ICE.

Go after Stephen Miller too. Bring charges against ICE thugs at the state and local level. Lawsuits. New state laws restricting them.

Every possible angle.
They are wounded and flailing. Press the advantage.
