As a tabletop game enthusiast, I think much of this is that at some point everyone has played Monopoly or Sorry and not enough people have played Hamlet or Wingspan. More immigration means a bigger economy for everyone! Not every immigrant is in direct competition with you for scarce resources!
Something very telling about how if you poll people on actual immigration policy, they state they want something *less* cruel and restrictive than the current system.
But also, at the same time, expect numbers to go down.
