When hiring someone, I would much rather teach someone with a great attitude and curiosity a hard tech skill they don't possess than try (and almost certainly fail) to teach someone with hard tech skills to develop the great attitude and curiosity they don't possess. Every damn time.

As an individual citizen, I shouldn't have to care about any of this.🤷🏿‍♂️

There should be a federal climate scientist (with some PhD from some very good program I don't know about) working with federal and state government employees (at agencies with boring names), using my taxes to increase drainage.
Extreme rainfall puts cities on alert
The need to boost resilience to rapid swings in weather is becoming urgent

It’s exactly what I tell my students: you’re not here to have me a thing I give a grade to, you’re here to learn to be a better writer. Using AI for that is like learning to ride a bike by putting your bike on the back of a truck and having someone else drive it around the block.

Another example of our cruelty. “China, Russia and India have dispatched emergency teams and supplies to earthquake-ravaged Myanmar. So have Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.
The United States, the richest country in the world and once its most generous provider of foreign aid, has sent nothing.”
Trump’s U.S.A.I.D. Cuts Hobble Earthquake Response in Myanmar
While China, Russia and other nations have rushed emergency response teams to the devastated country, the U.S., once a leader in foreign aid, has been slow to act.

A friend of my compared gutting of federal agencies to a wrecking a car: if you remove 30% of the parts of the car, it does not go 30% slower. It stops working.

I hate "Nobody voted for..." framing. I understand it, but people did vote for it. They ignored information readily available to them. They can't change the past, but if they are mad and regretful, they can help change the future.

About fifty years ago, NASA strapped a message in a bottle to a rocket and flung it into the deep dark
It wasn’t supposed to go this far, but it did. Long past its mission, it’s still out there so far away now that a simple hello takes a day to reach it, and another day to hear if it says hello back

A professor of environmental sciences gives a quick punchy take on the "eye-popping" numbers re. how clean air promotes economic growth.

An EPA analysis of 20 years of the Clean Air Act (1970-90) found the economic benefits of the regulations were about 42X greater than the costs.

No pay wall.
America’s clean air rules boost health and the economy − here’s what EPA’s new deregulation plans ignore
Clean air has become one of America’s best investments, returning $10 for every $1 spent on regulations, by one estimate.
