Queer histrom authors, please give me more clinch covers! Why are the straights the only ones who get to have bodice rippers? I want seduction, I want longing, I want bursting fabric. I'm sick of these tame ass illustrated covers.

We have to remember that the American public being misinformed and lacking knowledge of what’s happening right now is only their fault *to an extent*

Our entire media ecosystem has been purchased and controlled by billionaires and oligarchs.

A misinformed public is MANUFACTURED AND INTENTIONAL.

DO. NOT. BUY. THE. AI. HYPE. I cannot stress it enough. I know your grad schools are teaching it, I know there are content/tech jobs in it, and I know you're using it. But for the love of fuck, run the opposite direction.
Librarians and other info professionals, what do you think is the most important career advice that MLIS students need right now?

Your issue isn't with the Bible.

Your issue is with racist bigoted political twats and the far right, which has been waging this war for generations.

Spending time on this is wasted effort.

You can hyperfixate on this issue or you can go do something to help the kids being hurt.

Stop.

The point is about how we shouldn't even be playing retaliation games.

It doesn't matter whether or not the bible has status. You recognize MOST PEOPLE who read the Bible don't want books banned, yeah?

You recognize alienating them helps no one, yeah?

And they DID ban it in Davis County.
They don’t actually want to ban it, its a point about how every exemption is made for the Bible, but when even the most mild representations of minorities history come up the bills go flying. If you care about knowledge you know one the Bible has always had a privileged status with politicans.

I feel as if we're capable of acknowledging that a one-day boycott is mostly symbolic without becoming contemptuous and dismissive of people finding a little meaning and comfort in such a symbol. The scorn seems petty.

Hi, just a reminder that when you use Libro.fm for your audiobooks, you support independent bookshops vs. large corporations that drive them out of business.

We also pay taxes. And so do indie bookshops.

no the fuck we are NOT making “LGBQ+” a thing and if I see any of you motherfuckers using that acronym it’s on sight

Marsha P. Johnson did not smash in the windshield of a police car for this
‼️ The National Park Service has REMOVED mentions of transgender people being involved with Stonewall. Not only did the remove the world "Transgender" but changed "LGBTQ+" to "LGBQ+".

The federal government is attempting to erase us and take away our history.

This pride, we riot.

The YA publishing crisis isn’t that we need more mature YA books or a Mature YA label, it’s that we need more YA books published for teens of all ages and less YA books published as YA but also wanting to reach Adult audiences. Adults have plenty of books published for them.

If anyone claims that the current anti-trans panic was caused in any part by trans people advocating for our human rights, that person is lying through their teeth.

The religious right lost on marriage equality, and immediately started going after trans people instead. That's what happened.

I almost argued with someone on here about their blame-dealing election takes. Almost. I have opinions about the election too. Strong ones. And you know what? It doesn’t fucking matter. Look around. Pointless division is a death trap. *That discourse* is a death trap. It’s collective survival time.

I know we are all having a hard time here, but I am going to ask that we try to keep a fuckin grip on the anti-social behavior during this time.

You losing your shit is not gonna help anyone. Lose your shit in private, with a trusted friend, or to your therapist. Not on Beyoncé’s internet.

If you’re in an institution doing any kind of DEI work, the most important thing to do right now is simply call it something else. Change it to “Community Outreach” & then keep on doing the same important work. When they outlaw Community Outreach rebrand it as “Strategic Partnerships,” rinse/repeat.

Friends, I keep seeing "get a library card!" posts and while yes, that is helpful, it doesn't really mean much unless you *use* it. And just using it won't save programs, funding, or protect from bans. You have to get involved.
These are very good suggestions, but a few key ones are missing: attend library board mtgs and speak in favor (many are on zoom), donate $, and vote for measures and bonds to increase funding. Patrons have real power. Don't let a handful of bigots destroy your library.
One thing before tomorrow:

Use your local libraries.

Get your card.

Borrow books, manga, films, audios, ebooks.

Recommend titles for purchase (usually online).

Attend promoted activities.

Fill out those "How are we doing?" questionnaires.

Tell your kids that libraries are good.

They are.

low-key one of the most insidious dumb guy beliefs of the last few decades to gain widespread purchase has been this notion that demonstrating pro-social behavior in the hope that others would notice and mirror it, one of the fucking building blocks of any kind of society, is somehow ‘fake’.

Seeing a lot of people today post some variation of "TikTok needs to be banned because it's rotted everyone's brains." It's not TikTok. You're uncomfortable with how normal people use the internet — which will always be strange and ugly — and you'll say the same thing about whatever replaces TikTok.
