Every time I see someone like Abbott choose self-inflicted decline, I think of this quote from Pedro Sanchez:

"Spain needs to choose between being an open and prosperous country or a closed-off, poor country. It’s as simple as that."

NEW: Our investigation for @thenerve_news reveals not only that Peter Thiel’s Palantir is completely enmeshed in our critical national infrastructure.

It’s also the ‘cloud support’ for our nuclear weapons system 🤯

Earlier the government argued the 10 days of missing footage had been "irretrievably destroyed," then it argued it was lost in a "system crash." Now it says that the footage never existed at all and is therefore not "missing" and they cannot be held liable

At the risk of being self-aggrandizing: if there is Hater's Guide to Oracle being written, it feels like I should at least be on the shortlist to write the foreword?
Currently working on one of my favorite pieces ever: The Hater’s Guide To Oracle. This company is so stupid and Larry Ellison has bet the farm on OpenAI having $300 billion to give it over five years. Larry Ellison is H.R. Geiger’s Jerry Stiller and he’s rigged his company to blow

Liam himself is five goddamned years old and should be at home with an adult he trusts right now no matter who his parents are. It would not matter if they were literal criminal masterminds, Liam Ramos is a baby and babies do not belong in prison.
Reminder that, as of the latest reports, Liam Ramos is still in prison in Texas - now for 5 days.

His parents are legal asylum seekers with no criminal record.

There's no consensual, uniform "real America that hates police state tactics" that's coming to prevent the US from sliding into a full blown authoritarian regime. There's just the ongoing argument & contestation amongst Americans about what powers the government we live under can legitimately wield.

Flashback to June of 1974 when a New York Times reporter went to an almost entirely white, upper-middle class retirement community in Orange County, Ca to see what folks thought of the ongoing investigation of Nixon. What they heard might ring some bells.

this is a fake problem. no one is saying this to regular, offline people who are coming around. they’re saying it to people who are engaged in professional political analysis who committed professional malpractice by scolding people who saw what was coming.

no, those people shouldn’t get a break.
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

The best way to deal with poverty is just to give poor people money.
Actually there is a huge amount of waste in welfare programming: the delays and staff time to review the absolute insane amount of paperwork created by the various means tests this delusion has demanded.

Microsoft released NTLMv2 in 1998, no doubt because tools like L0phtCrack were able crack NTLMv1 passwords with the measly computing power then.

NTLMv1 is still in use today!

Mandiant has now released rainbow tables for NTLMv1 that can crack any pw in 12hrs on a $600 computer.
