i just wish someone would slam down on a big red button that plays a loud, deep, almost cartoonish voice tauntingly bellowing, "RAAAAAA-CIST" through the entire building every time people say this sort of shit. if they try to argue, we just keep slamming the button repeatedly to drown it out.

A very sticky problem that I don’t think is getting enough thought: when this regime is gone, we’re gonna have to do serious purging of law enforcement, especially on the federal level, but avoid the historic problems that come along with such purges. (See: Reconstruction, De-Baathification, etc.)

My favorite book of the earthsea series, just a truly profound piece of writing.
I'm going to say Tehanu by Ursula LeGuin. This 4th novel of the Earthsea Cycle was published over 20 years after book 3, The Farthest Shore. While the original trilogy certainly shaped my preteen and teen years, this one hit me as a young adult, redefining heroism & strength.
