Labour has to go. Immediately.
"Outside of the most exceptional circumstances family reunion, will not be possible [for refugees]" Shabana Mahmood tells MPs

Labour leaders seem perfectly capable of creativity as long as it involves cruelty. Ask them to adopt a fraction of this to help fix this country and they are suddenly out of ideas.
Just wilful performative cruelty that is entirely out of step with the majority of British people.

How many Labour MPs got into politics in order to vote for stealing jewellery off of people seeking refuge from war and persecution?

The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

The resonances of this are almost too dark to be accidental.
Govt minister Alex Norris is asked if the govt will take jewellery from people [fleeing war and persecution]. Norris says the govt won't be taking peoples wedding rings but they will seize assets.

it's basically impossible to argue with this, they have won significant policy concessions, and there's no reason to think they'll stop pushing now that Labour have opened the door for them
They must be proud with this endorsement, they worked hard for it.

To explain briefly: at the moment people successful in their asylum claims get permission to stay in the UK for 5 years, then have to apply for permanent residency. At that point a review of their status is done, but it’s rare not to succeed at that point unless they‘ve committed an offence 1/
To reiterate, this is about making life immeasurably more miserable and stressful for some of the most vulnerable people, in the almost certainly vain hope of winning over the votes of racists.

Anything more shabby and shameful is difficult to envisage.

It’s old hat by now but it needs reiterating that the fact that so much of the internationalist fascist resurgence specifically targets immigrants and trans people because their very existence is a threat to the fascist ontology of imposed ‘natural’ categories of sex and nation

Good stuff in here, apart from the wrong declaration that Benjamin Disraeli was "openly Jewish", which undercuts its point. (Disraeli was in fact Anglican and had been since childhood, he just faced racism for his entire career due to his Jewish ancestry, and he occasionally addressed it.)
In this week's Pickle, editor Alexandra Diamond-Rivlin considers what's in a name – and the link between Greens leader Zack Polanski's Jewishness, progressive policies, and the antisemitism he has received from the British press. www.vashtimedia.com/greens-zack-...
A Green by any other name
Zack Polanski couldn't have foreseen the antisemitism he'd experience in politics. But his name change at 18 shows his lifelong commitment to standing as himself, and with minorities everywhere.

As someone who'd been through it, I can confirm this.
We are one of the most petty, miserable, mean-spirited, spiteful little islands in the world. The process we force these people through is already dehumanising and a stain on the moral character of us all.

And this ghoul thinks it is too generous.

I'm gonna lose it.

Home secretary to tackle UK's 'excessive generosity' with sweeping immigration reforms
In a statement to MPs on Monday, Shabana Mahmood is expected to tighten up the rules to allow for more deportations, and reduce the "pull factors" that attract migrants to the UK.

The ability of the far right to insist that their views - trans people are lying perverts, climate change is a hoax, immigrants are all thieving, raping scum - are necessarily legitimate & must be given a hearing is already a vast victory for forms of extremism beyond the pale not long ago.
What bothers me is that impartiality and balance are two different and incompatible things. Impartiality means that you don't intervene to put your thumb on the scales. Balance necessarily requires that you intervene to artificially make every issue look like a 50/50.

I personally don’t think the state should intrude into the provide decision to fire workers on the side of anti-trans bigots in ways that naturally open the floodgates to the state protecting anti-Muslim bigots, etc. especially in a way that inverts the Equality Act 2010
This is how transphobia's right wing fuckery blew open basic respect in the UK, there is absolutely no reason to expect now that being "women critical" is not also a protected belief, if you truly do not believe that women should just be reproductive slaves for cis men.

This will be used to abuse.

As is usual in the UK, it is considered worse to *call* someone racist than to be racist.

I have fallen out with MANY people (friends!) over the years about this.

Folk who consider themselves unimpeachable, and go ballistic when you point out that something they did or said was kind of shitty.
