i think this more than anything is what miller wants. vast detention camps with all of the suffering and death that means.
ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...
ICE to begin detaining immigrants inside Social Circle warehouse in April
Homeland Security plans to build warehouse detention facilities in other cities being met with opposition.

Almost done with this (very good) book and it draws two pretty straightforward conclusions:

1. Humans can’t live in space

2. Billionaires are the people in the best position to solve Earth’s problems instead of hypothetical space problems but that would involve a non-zero amount of accountability

production of The Muppet Show should not be dependent on petty vulgarities like “ratings” or “revenue.” it should be preserved as a vital function of american culture. it should have a taxpayer-funded budget rivaling the CIA

It's kind of amazing how the worst consequence many of our most powerful people can conceive of is someone being mad at them online, to the degree that they are driven to distraction about it even in the abstract.
It’s really weird for some corners of the media to do a whole “the Epstein files are a moral panic that has gone too far” thing when no one has faced any sort of punishment and doesn’t sound like they’re going to.

For all the discussion of doxxing federal agents, there’s essentially no discussion of how those agents are taking steps that attach severe punitive measures that stretch across wide swaths of the federal bureaucracy against people acting lawfully.
A Minnesota woman observing ICE agents in her car was cornered on one-way streets. An agent approached, called her by name—citing facial recognition. Days later, her Global Entry and TSA privileges were revoked, with no explanation.

The good news is all the brazen, cartoonish corruption makes it easier to run on an anti-oligarchy, good government platform. The bad news is you still need candidates who want to do that

I thought about this a lot when we were all pushing to get kilmar abrego garcia released. I'm glad we got him back but literally NO ONE should be sent to CECOT. They should have ALL been brought back.

Never accept an inch. Never accept their framing. Bring everyone back and abolish DHS.
The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Never forget that the reason they are so convinced you’re all getting paid is that they are all getting paid.
The fact that every right winger with influence screams "who is paying for all of this" tells you exactly how awash in cash they all are, and how much they rely on that to keep their movement afloat.
James O'Keefe says he's never seen anything so organized as the anti-ICE movement, observers--he seems to think this term is code--everywhere he goes. Who is paying for it??? he demands to know. It's like he can't even imagine people caring for one another.

Abolish ICE, prosecute and imprison its leaders, impeach and remove the President from office. This is the only sane reaction to a group of armed men kidnapping and gunning down our neighbors in the street.
As tens of thousands across America protest the violence that ICE sows with impunity, federal agents shot and killed another person in Minneapolis today.

ICE terrorizes our cities. ICE puts us all in danger. Abolish ICE.

What's happening in Minnesota is one reason the Reconstruction Amendments banned insurrectionists from holding office. Unfortunately, the originalists on the Supreme Court interpreted the plain language of the amendment to mean its opposite.

I keep thinking “my god the people they’ve killed seem like exceptionally good folks” and I think the lesson there is that they’re not exceptional, but that wonderful people abound and that a baseline distrust in humanity is a shitty conservative trope that privileges power over collective strength

I agree that we can’t make Alex Pretti a Benedictine monk because that’s a trap, but we can talk about the good things we did because people will see and hear them and think “I do those things too”

If you do this, if you’re affiliated with an organization that does this, if you support this, if you make any sort of excuse for any action where the end result is arresting a five year old, you do not belong in any society humans should be building. Go live in the sewer, if you must live at all.
I guess I do think if you participated in the arrest of a five-year-old you are probably just fundamentally incompatible with society. That you are not a safe person for humanity to be around, generally

the failure of Dem opposition still comes from the party being without shared beliefs such that the only message they can agree on is affordability.

the party as a whole won’t condemn cops. they won’t call for a wealth tax. they won’t call for expansive labor rights. they’re lost but hate the left.

look he's seen the polling, this is not a statement about what's effective, it's a statement about what they want to be committed to doing with power should they win. if they run on opposing ICE then they'll have to actually oppose ICE. this is ideology masquerading as electoral strategy
NEW: In this interview, Chuck Schumer describes the "five buckets" Dems think are key to their possibly winning a Senate majority in 2026: housing, "the high price of food [and] food monopolies playing a major role there," electricity, "the high cost of childcare," and health care.
